All-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class revealed, check all the details here
After months of teasers, spy shots, and leaks, the all-new sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz C-class has been officially unveiled in both sedan and estate forms. And as expected, the updated model boasts a sportier exterior design, revamped interior, several updated technology features, and class-leading PHEV range. Here, we bring the full details of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, have a look.
New Mercedes-Benz C-Class Exterior
On the exterior, the new C-Class does not look significantly different from the predecessor, however, the changes are in the details. Mercedes says that the updated model has a "cab backward" design, in which the windshield and passenger cell have been shifted further back than earlier. The C-Class new look features an A-shaped grille and a new bonnet with power domes; the design of the grille differs among the variants. There is chrome detailing in the standard trims, while a diamond grille with a chrome star dons AMG Line variants.
At the front, there are slightly thinner headlights while at the rear it gets the new two-piece tail lights similar to those of the new S-Class. Down the sides, the revamped model features fewer creases on the doors and new alloy wheels, ranging between 17- to 19-inches in size. Dimensionally, the new version is 2.5 inches longer and half an inch wider than the outgoing C-class.
The automaker also added two new colour options to the existing palette - Moonlight White and Starling Blue.
New Mercedes-Benz C-Class Interior
The updated cabin can be seen as the biggest change available in the latest C-Class, which mirrors the minimalist design aesthetics seen on the new S-class. The new appointments are as follows:
- 11.9-inch tablet-style central touchscreen mated to Mercedes’ second-generation MBUX infotainment system with over-the-air software updates compatibility and ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice control system as standard.
- 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with different modes - Navigation, Assistance, and Service
- Head-up display
- Burmester 3D surround sound system
- Augmented video for navigation
- Inductive wireless charging
- Sleek ambient lighting
- Beautifully stitched materials and glossy surfaces
- Jet engine inspired AC vents and gear shifter
- Touch-sensitive pads on the steering wheel
Talking about the increased space, the new C-Class has 35 mm additional rear legroom, 13 mm more rear headroom, and also more elbow space in both rows. The sedan’s boot measurement has also been increased by 45 litres to 360 litres, while in the Estate version, customers can get a luggage capacity of 490 litres.
New Mercedes-Benz C-Class Engine
A range of four-cylinder engines will be available for the new Mercedes C-Class, including petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid versions, all mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
The petrol line-up starts with the 1.5-litre C180, which generates a maximum power of 170 hp and a peak torque of 263 Nm. Next in the lineup is C200, which shares the C180’s 1.5-litre capacity but generates 204 hp and 300 Nm. And, the 2.0-litre C300 produces 259 hp and 400 Nm. It can hit the 100 kmph mark in just 6 seconds.
The entry-level diesel variant C200d makes 163 hp, the mid-level C220d kicks out 200 hp and the top-spec C300d is rated at 265 hp. The C300d is the quickest in the range with a 0-100 kmph sprint of 5.7 seconds.
Moving to the C-Class PHEV, the C300e plug-in hybrid is equipped with a 2-litre petrol engine and 25.4 kWh battery pack for a combined system output of 308 hp and 550 Nm. With such a large battery pack, it gets an impressive 100 km pure electric range. The automaker claims that it can be fully charged in just 30 minutes with a 55 kW DC charger.
New Mercedes-Benz C-Class Safety
Mercedes also upgrades the safety and driver assistance features list of the new C-Class. It comprises an updated active distance assist Distronic system that can now give a response to stationary vehicles at up to 100 kmph. The German automaker also improved the parking sensors of the model as well as speed limit assist, which can now trace red traffic lights and stop signs effectively. Blind-spot assist, attention assist, and parking damage detection are now standard across the range, while active steering assist, automatic park assist and Car-to-X communication are optional ones.
New Mercedes-Benz C-Class Price & Availability
The automaker has not yet revealed the new Mercedes C-Class price, which is expected to hit the US roads in early 2022. However, in Malaysia, we have to wait a long for the updated model.
