2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class images leaked ahead of the official debut

KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class has already been spotted a few times during test mules wrapped in various states of camouflages. And, now here comes the first uncovered images of the next-generation C-Class, which has been leaked online ahead of its official global debut on February 23. A French website ‘The Automobilist’ published these pictures on its Facebook account.

On the exterior, the redesigned C-Class looks more like a shrunken version of the S-Class. It features a rounded-off grille, slim headlamps, sharp tail lights, and carries the same S-Class styling cues but with a more compact, and sportier stance. For now, it is expected to come in two body styles - sedan and estate, while a jacked-up wagon model called C-Class All-Terrain will arrive afterward.

However, it is not the exterior where the new C-Class gets major upgrades, the revamped and stunning interior forms a real deal. The upcoming Mercedes C-Class will have the latest version of the company's MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system that will be played on a massive touchscreen display. 

Also revealed in the images are a freestanding digital instrument panel, a new three-spoke steering wheel, and more-rounded AC vents. The rotary controller and physical gearshift are not available in the new version.

In terms of mechanical setup, the automaker confirmed that the current six-cylinder and V8 powertrains will be replaced by a new version of the existing electrified four-cylinder hardware. The mighty twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 currently produces a maximum power of 375 kW and a peak torque of 700 Nm under the bonnet of the C 63 sedan. The upcoming engines will also have a hybrid assist, the mild-hybrid 48-volt system is expected.

Based on the new Modular Rear Architecture platform, the 2021 C-Class will also feature a revised version of the rear- and all-wheel drive platform. Included in the updates is a new autonomous driving suite with all advanced features.

The next-generation C-Class will be unveiled tomorrow i.e. February 23, 2021, at the automaker's social media platforms.
