2021 Mazda6 updates revealed, gets a new Carbon Edition trim
KUALA LUMPUR: After unveiling the new CX-5 and CX-9 last month, Mazda has now rolled out the all-new Mazda6. Although it packs less significant mods compared to its siblings, there are a few standout highlights that are worth mentioning. These include more torque for its turbocharged powertrain, new connectivity feature, and a Carbon Edition trim with appearance tweaks.

Unlike previously revealed models, the new Mazda6 did not get the updated infotainment system, but the ongoing one is now compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment. On the top trims, Apple CarPlay can be paired wirelessly.
On the mechanical front, the base naturally aspirated 2.5-litre engine remains unchanged. In contrast, the turbocharged 2.5-litre inline-four now produces 250 hp and 434 Nm of torque, which is 14 Nm higher than the earlier version. The trims fitted with a turbo engine now carry a Turbo badge on the trunk to indicate the powertrain under the hood.
The next significant change is a new Carbon Edition trim that sits between the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature variants. The model is decked up in a Polymetal Grey exterior paint, a gloss black trunk lip spoiler, gloss black door mirrors, and a set of black 19-inch wheels. Inside the cabin, there are red leather seats with black trim, black hairline accents on the dash and door cards, and red finishing on the dash and centre console.

The amenities list of Mazda6 Carbon Edition comprises adaptive headlights, a head-up display, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats.
Coming to the top-spec Signature trim, it now features a gunmetal front grille and an interior packed in authentic Japanese Sen wood, Nappa leather, and UltraSuede accents. The updated equipment list includes a 360-degree view monitor, a seven-inch TFT digital gauge display, LED ambient lighting, and more. Other variants are also updated with some styling and technological bits.
The new Mazda6 is set to hit the US showrooms later this month, at a starting price of USD $24,325 (RM 100,875). The Carbon Edition trim is priced at $32,800 (RM 136,021). We hope that the updated Mazda lineup soon makes its way to the Malaysian market.
