2021 Hyundai Elantra gets a new Executive trim in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in December, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors introduced the all-new seventh-generation Elantra in Malaysia in a single Premium variant. Now, it added a new entry-level Executive model to the sedan’s lineup with an intent to tap a wider market.

Just like the earlier model, the Elantra Executive is also fully imported from South Korea, however, when it comes to price, the new trim costs RM 19,000 less than the Premium at RM 139,888 (on the road without insurance and SST). Included in the price is a five-year or 300,000 km manufacturer’s warranty.

On the exterior, the new Elantra boasts Hyundai's Sensuous Sportiness design with LED headlights, LED tail lights, and 17-inch wheels, just like the Premium version, while inside the cabin, you can find a few differences. The Executive trim gets an analog meter instrument panel with a 4.2-inch TFT LCD, black fabric seats, manual seat adjustment, and a day and night rear view mirror. Functions like heating/ventilating system for the front seats, and wireless smartphone charger are not available with it. Furthermore, some advanced safety assist systems are also excluded.

However, it still enjoys a number of features available with the Premium variant like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Blind Spot-Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic - Collision Warning, Safe Exit Warning, and Rear Occupant Alert.

Coming to the oily bits, here also the new Elantra Executive gets the same powertrain available with the Elantra Premium. That’s a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated mill churning out a maximum power of 123 PS and a peak torque of 154 Nm. It is mated to an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) sending power to the sedan’s front wheels.

“We have received a significant number of interest from customers on the new Elantra and also a preference for lower pricing. As with all fully imported cars, the exchange rate is one of the determining factor for the price of the car. The Elantra is a complete built-up unit that is fully-imported from Korea, therefore the exchange rate does affect how we price the car. Having said that, we would still like to make the Elantra accessible to all our customers with the introduction of this new variant,” said Mr. Low Yuan Lung, Managing Director of HSDM.

The new Elantra Executive is now available for viewing at all Hyundai showrooms in the country.
