2021 Audi SQ5 Sportback TDI debuts in Europe
KUALA LUMPUR: As a sportier-looking coupe-styled version of the practical Q5 SUV, Audi unveiled the 2021 Q5 Sportback a couple of months ago. And now the German automaker pulled the wraps off its performance-oriented alternative, the 2021 SQ5 Sportback for the European market. The ‘S’ version gets all the expected Audi performance upgrades, but there is one detail that particularly stands out, and that is a TDI engine.
Although Audi has shifted the bigger siblings, the SQ7 and SQ8 to gasoline power in the European market, the smaller SQ5 runs on diesel. Powering the 2021 SQ5 Sportback is a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel mill, generating 341 PS of maximum power and 700 Nm of torque from 1750 to 3250 rpm. The engine is equipped with two technologies - a 48 V mild hybrid system (MHEV) and electric powered compressor (EPC), which reduce fuel consumption and enhance spontaneity.
Talking about the performance, the SUV can run from naught to 100 kmph in 5.1 seconds before reaching a top speed of 250 kmph.
The distinctive details that help the Audi SQ5 Sportback TDI look different from the other variants in the lineup can be observed inside and out. On the exterior, the performance SUV features vertical brackets for large side air inlets on the front bumper, and in the octagonal Singleframe grille, the filigree bars connect large octagonal honeycombs with each other The LED headlights come as standard while the matrix LED headlight with automatic high beam and dynamic turn signals are available as an option. At the rear end, the bumper integrates a bracket in a matte aluminum finish, under which lies the diffuser insert and four chrome-plated oval tailpipe trims. For the rear lights, the new digital OLED technology can also be chosen.
Inside, the 2021 Audi SQ5 Sportback TDI is decked up with black or dark grey shades, and the illuminated aluminum door sill trims are decorated with S badges. The automaker offers three upholstery options for the electrically-adjustable sport seats, which also features embossed S logos. The massage and seat ventilation functions are also available on request.
Built in Mexico, the 2021 Audi SQ5 Sportback will be launched in the first half of 2021.
