2021 Audi A3 Sedan breaks cover

KUALA LUMPUR: A couple of months ago, Audi unveiled the 2021 Audi A3 Sportback and left us with the anticipation of a sedan version. Well, the wait is over now, and the all-new A3 sedan is in front of us. However, the model is Euro-spec and will go on sale in the old continent this summer, with a starting price of €27,700 (RM 1,32,000).

The fourth-generation A3 sedan features the dramatically updated tech and beefy new design. In terms of dimensions, it is not much larger than the outgoing model. The new A3 is 4,500 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,430 mm tall, which means the length is increased by 40 mm, width goes up by 20 mm and height raised by 10 mm. However, the wheelbase and boot capacity remain the same at 2,637 mm and 425 litres respectively.

This exterior design is more angular now, consisting of sharp LED headlamps and a hexagonal grille, edged by two non-functional intakes. Like the other latest Audi models, including E-Tron Sportback, the new A3 will also be available with the firm’s light-shaping Matrix LED hardware. At the rear end, there is a new LED taillight design and an enlarged rear diffuser that enhances aerodynamic efficiency at speed.

Inside the cabin, A3 Sedan and Sportback have identical appointments, which include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch MMI touch display, and MMI navigation with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options.

The Euro-spec Audi A3 will be available in three drivetrain choices. The first on the list is 

35 TDI with a 2.0 litre four-cylinder mill producing 150 PS of power and 360 Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 7-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission sending power to the front wheels. It can make 0-100 kmph sprint in 8.4 seconds before reaching the top speed of 232 kmph.

The next is 35 TFSI petrol trim powered by a 1.5 litre four-cylinder engine, capable of generating 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It will have two transmission options - a new six-speed manual and seven-speed S Tronic. 

For safety, it features Audi pre sense driver-assist system that covers forward collision mitigation, cross-traffic assist, adaptive cruise assist, surround-view camera, and collision avoidance assist.
