2020 Volvo S60 T8 CKD set to launch in Malaysia on May 18

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo launched the third-generation of S60 in Malaysia last October. Though it was a fully imported version, the firm announced its intentions to introduce the locally-assembled (CKD) S60 T8 in the country in 2020. However, the Covid-19 pandemic delayed its launch.

Now, the automaker has revealed through its social media post that it is set to launch the CKD version. The post read as, “You are exclusively invited to join our special live stream launch event of the new Volvo S60 T8 CKD happening next week, May 18th at 12 PM, only on Volvo Car Malaysia’s Facebook page.”

As per the firm’s previous statement made at the launch of imported S60, the CKD model would have similar specifications and pricing. Well, nothing is confirmed unless the official details have come.

The mechanical set-up of S60 CKD is likely to house the same T8 Twin Engine AWD plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It comprises a Drive-E 2.0- litre supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit producing 320 PS of maximum power and 400 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the front wheels through an Aisin-sourced AW TG-81SD 8-speed automatic gearbox and a crankshaft-integrated starter/generator.

The drivetrain also houses an electric motor producing 87 PS and 240 Nm, which provides an all-wheel drive and a combined system output of 407 PS and 640 Nm. The Volvo S60 can make a sprint of 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds before reaching the top speed of 250 kmph. The claimed fuel economy is 50 kmpl.

The electric motor is powered by an 11.6 kWh lithium-ion battery, which is located in the transmission tunnel. It provides an EV range of up to 49 km. For charging, the sedan comes with an onboard 3.7 kW charger, which can be connected to charging stations through a Type 2 connection. It can charge fully in three hours.

Besides this, the other features which are likely to be identical are R-Design styling package, dynamic Chassis with passive damping, 19-inch five triple-spoke alloy wheels, a Sensus Connect infotainment system, a head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, and safety and driver assistance systems.
