2020 Toyota Corolla comes with 9-inch display audio with AACP-ready connectivity

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota launched the fresh face of Corolla Sedan at Guangzhou Motor Show, China, in 2018. However, the model entered the Malaysian market in October 2019, almost after one year of the global premiere. And now, the official distributor of Toyota Cars in Malaysia, UMW Toyota, introduces its 2020 iteration with a slight update.

2020 Toyota Corolla now comes with a new Display Audio head unit, adopted from Toyota Fortuner and Innova. It houses a nine-inch touchscreen and has AACP (Android Auto Apple CarPlay) ready connectivity, Wi-Fi, voice recognition, USB, and Bluetooth support. Through this, customers can access their favorite entertainment and navigation apps by mirroring the mobile screen on a larger display without compromising the safety. 

However, the new unit is available only for the top-spec 1.8G variant, and the lower trim 1.8E continues with the old 6.8-inch system. The addition of a new head unit increases the price of Corolla 1.8G by RM 3000, which is now priced at RM 139,888 on-the-road without insurance, While the Corolla 1.8E retails at the earlier price of RM 128,888. Moreover, the automaker does not offer the option of installing the Display Audio system for an additional cost.

Coming to other specifications of 2020 Toyota Corolla, the model continues to feature the same exterior and interior styling, same mechanical set up as well as the same safety features. 

Under the hood, both the variants have the same 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine pumping out 139 PS of power and 173 Nm of torque. The setup is coupled with a Shiftmatic CVT that drives the front wheels, along with Sport and Eco drive modes.

In terms of safety, standard features are 7 airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, emergency stop signal, hill-start assist control, tyre pressure monitoring system, and Isofix child seat anchors. While the 1.8G trim houses the Toyota Safety Sense safety suite.

Other distinguishing features of 1.8G include a seven-inch Optitron instrument display, black leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, LED headlamps, and 17-inch alloy wheels. However, the following specification of 1.8G can be installed in lower-trim for an additional cost:

• 3D panoramic view monitor for RM 2,700 
• Front and rear digital video recorders for RM 1,100 
• Vehicle Telematics System for RM 1,450

The newest iteration of the sedan is now available at all the authorized Toyota dealers.
