KUALA LUMPUR: Based on the GLA model, the Mercedes-Benz GLB is a mid-size SUV that made its global debut last year, and now it’s the time when the German SUV arrives here in Malaysia. Earlier this morning, Mercedes launched the all-new GLB range in the country along with an AMG model.
The SUV is built on the MFA2 (Modular Front Architecture) platform and occupies the space between the GLC and GLA in the brand’s SUV line-up. The automaker offers the model in three variants in the local market - the GLB 200 Progressive Line, GLB 250 4Matic AMG Line, and AMG GLB 35 4Matic. The GLB 200 and GLB 250 get a three-row seating layout with space for seven passengers, whereas the GLB 35 comes with five seats only.
Coming to the new Mercedes GLB highlights, it gets LED High-Performance headlamps, aluminum roof rails, and the options of 18-inch and 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, it features Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system with two 10.25-inch touchscreen displays and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
Other key features include an LTE module for Mercedes me connected services, Thermotronic dual-zone climate control with rear vents, powered front seats with memory function, powered tailgate, Active Parking Assist with Parktronic, Pre-Safe, Keyless-Go, Easy-Pack tailgate, and so on.
The available colour choices are Polar White, Denim Blue, Galaxy Blue, Iridium Silver, Digital White, Mountain Grey, Cosmos Black, and designo Patagonia Red.
On the mechanical front, the base GLB 200 is powered by a 1.33-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 163 PS of maximum power at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm of peak torque from 1,620 to 4,000 rpm. The engine is coupled with a 7G-DCT seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. In contrast, the GLB 250 gets a 2.0 litre turbo, mated to an 8G-DCT eight-speed dual-clutch generating 224 PS and 350 Nm. The top-most GLB 35 comes equipped with an uprated 306 PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill, an 8-speed AMG Speedshift DCT dual-clutch transmission, and an AMG Performance 4Matic AWD system.
Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 price in Malaysia starts at RM 269,118 (on-the-road without insurance and including current sales tax exemption), while the GLB 250 retails for RM 318,009. For the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic, the customers need to shell out RM 363,137.
