2020 Kia Stinger powertrain details revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: Around mid-August, Kia revealed the upcoming Stinger's exterior and interior images. Thus, giving us a fair idea of what the new sedan is bringing in its plate. However, back then, the Stinger's powertrain details were kept under wraps, leaving us to wonder about the unit that'll pull the stylish sedan. But now, no more speculating, as the South Korean automaker has announced 2020 Stinger under the hood specifications.
The 2020 Stinger will feature several powertrains, let's now discuss each one-by-one. Starting with the brand new addition, a 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill, reserved for the North American market. This 2.5-litre direct-injection unit makes a maximum power of 300 hp at 5,800 rpm and a peak torque of 422 Nm at 1,650 rpm.
The Stinger GT trim will continue to source power from the 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 engine. However, it now carries a new electronic variable exhaust system. Thanks to the new addition, there is a power hike of 3 hp, bringing the total output to 368 hp at 6,000 rpm. The torque output remains the same at 510 Nm at 1,300 rpm. The exhaust system features a small butterfly valve that calls for a more aggressive soundtrack on the Sport driving mode. This is not the case with Eco and Comfort modes.
Kia continues to offer the entry-level 2.0-litre engine that makes 251 hp at 6,200 rpm and 353 Nm at 1,400 rpm. All three power plants mentioned above are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The company is numb about the pre-facelift Euro-limited 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that generated 197 hp and 440 Nm. This one was offered with two pedals, and AWD and rear-wheel drive options.
