2019 Kia Cerato - Details we know so far

Kia makes some of the best looking cars in the world. It has been around for quite some time now and has a good impression here in Malaysia. Kia is planning to strengthen its command over the market ever further by soon launching the 2019 Cerato. While there is no exact launch date as of now, the fact that it was spied yet again in the country is more than enough to keep us going. Here are the details of the 2019 Kia Cerato that we know so far.

It was at the KLIMS (Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show) 2018 when Kia showcased the new Cerato so we do have an idea about how its third-gen is going to be like. Even though the latest test mule that was caught testing was heavily disguised, it should be very similar to the model that we witnessed at the KLIMS 2018.

Exterior

When compared to the current model, the new 2019 Cerato would feature a revised front end. The headlights would be full LED and have integrated LED daytime running lights which would act as a signature element of the car. You would know it is a Cerato if you spot one from a distance.

The front bumper would get a slight makeover and would have horizontal LED fog lamps. Kia’s tiger-nose front grille would be found in the new model as well. This is again a signature element that most of the Kia cars come equipped with. Overall, the front look of the new Cerato would be sleeker and sportier than ever.

The sporty look would be carried to the side as well. As per the latest reports based on the spotting of the recent test mule, the new Cerato would be running on 16-in alloy wheels with high-profile tyres. This should provide a good combination of performance, comfort, and fuel economy.

Coming to the rear end, the tail lamps would be full LED and placed horizontally in a two-piece combination fashion. The trunk lid would have the brand logo in the middle and the bumper would be pretty sporty. It is being said that the 2019 Cerato would reflect the Kia Stinger in its shadows.

Interior

Kia would also play around with the dimensions of the new Cerato. The car is expected to measure 4,640 mm in length, 1,800 in width, and 1,440 mm in height. This means there would be improved legroom and headroom. Kia would also use the increased dimensions to bump up the boot capacity from 482-litres of the current model to 502-litres.

The cabin of the new Cerato would be finished in an all-black theme for that sporty feel. Expect to see the use of upgraded materials and improved fit and finish. There would be a 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with various mounted controls. Behind it would be a traditional or conventional instrument console with a decent-size MID. Talking about screens, Kia would include a larger touch screen infotainment system with support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Engine

It is being said that the 2019 Kia Cerato specs would have a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine which would produce a max power of around 150 hp and generate 192 Nm of peak torque. The current model is powered by a 1.6-litre engine that churns out 128 hp of max power at 6,300 rpm and 157 Nm of peak torque at 4,850 rpm. So yes, the new model would be more powerful. As far as the transmission is concerned, there would be only a 6-speed automatic unit. Chances of having a CVT are there as well.

Safety features

We are expecting to see the basic safety features like ABS, EBD, BA, hill assist, stability control, traction control, airbags, etc. in the 2019 Cerato. Reports also suggest that the structure of the new car would consist of 54% advanced high-strength steel and additional hot-stamped components. It would be five times more structural adhesive.

So these were the details about the upcoming Kia Cerato that we know so far. Regarding the pricing, the current model retails at RM 103,888, so expect the new model to have a dearer price tag. We are on top of this and as soon as any latest news breaks cover, we would report it so stay tuned for more updates.
