Launched as a concept back in 2010, the Bezza was touted as a ‘mobile living space’ back then. With all possible modern components and features related to entertainment and communication required in the digital age were then visioned with the concept, which was revealed at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show in 2010.

While the company’s vision was farsighted, the plans to transform a concept into a production model were firm too. The Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) and the first-ever sedan from Perodua made its debut in July 2016, with two engine options and five variants.

Entering in its fourth year, the Bezza gets a facelift that’s more aggressive and safer than before, with suspension finely tuned to offer better stability and handling. Also, the new 2020 Bezza is claimed to yield more than 20 kmpl across the line-up despite featuring the same engines as before - a 1.0-litre VVT-i three-cylinder (68 PS/91 Nm) and a 1.3-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder (95 PS/121 Nm).

Visual appeal

Talking about the outside appeal, the new Bezza is bolder and sleeker than before. Both the bumpers have been redesigned to look more sculpted, sharp and lower to the ground. While the fog lamp housing on the front bumper has been entirely modified, the bigger diffuser section at the rear is also new. The tail lamps are similar to that on the 2016 Bezza but with tweaks.

Unlike earlier, there is an option of 15-inch alloy wheels finished in dual-tone on the higher grade variants. The base model, however, still comes with 14-inch alloys.

Inside the cabin, there isn’t much to talk about as it is quite similar to the pre-facelift model. Except for the white base instrument cluster and silver highlighting strip for the centre console, rest remains largely the same on the new base Bezza model. However, Bluetooth is now a part of the standard equipment on the latest Bezza specs sheet.

Perodua is also offering a comprehensive body kit for accentuating the cosmetics of the sedan that includes LED light guides as the front, chrome strips for window panes, leather-wrapped seats, floor mats, and even the LED scuff plates.

The 2020 Bezza comes with full LED headlamps as standard that are now slimmer than what we have seen in the past on the 2016 model. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t considered the inclusion of DRLs as yet.

Features

The major highlight of the new 2020 Bezza has to be the ASA (Advanced Safety Assist) 2.0, not only this enhance the 2020 Bezza’s safety capabilities but also gives it an edge in the segment. The safety suite of new Bezza includes features like front departure alert, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and pedal misoperation control. ASA 2.0 is, however, available with only the top-spec Bezza 1.3 AV model.

The 1.0-litre variants, on the other hand, get standard safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and rear ISOFIX outer passenger seats like before. You get added safety with vehicle stability control and hill start assist on the higher 1.3 X model.

Powertrain

Under the hood, the Bezza continues to be powered by a 1.0-litre VVT-i three-cylinder that churns out 68 PS of power and 91 Nm of torque or a 1.3-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder with 95 PS and 121 Nm.

The only change done to the powertrain is that while the base 1.0-litre variants get a choice to be coupled with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto gearbox, the 1.3-litre trims are available only with the 4-speed auto transmission system.

So there you have it guys, that was a comparison between the 2010 Bezza and 2020 Bezza. The new Bezza is more aggressive and safer than before, with suspension finely tuned to offer better stability and handling. The model used to be one of the best A-segment sedans available in the country and its 2020 version continues to be so.
