The Toyota Corolla GR Sport distinguishes itself from the standard Corolla with GR Sport suspension setup, bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, distinctive exterior styling, red interior accents, and lots of GR badges.
  • How much does the 2023 Toyota Corolla cost?

Pricing for the 2023 Toyota Corolla starts at RM 139,800 and goes all the way up to RM 152,800.

    RM 139,800

    Corolla 1.8 G

    RM 147,800

    Corolla GR Sport

The mentioned prices include a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty against manufacturing defects.

All the variants of the sedan are equipped with the same 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four engine, which is tuned to deliver a maximum power of 139 PS and a peak torque of 172 Nm. The power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox.

Time to see the differences between the Corolla GR Sport and the Corolla (1.8 G variant).

    Suspension

The Corolla 1.8 G features MacPherson struts at the front and Double Wishbone at the rear. On the contrary, the Corolla GR Sport comes equipped with a GR Sport suspension setup incorporating re-tuned dampers, springs, and stabilisers. It offers improved handling and a more dynamic driving experience.

    Wheels

The latest iteration of the Corolla 1.8 G comes fitted with new 17-inch alloy wheels that feature multi-axis configuration and exude aesthetic boldness. The new set is mated to 225/45 profile tyres. The new Corolla GR Sport, on the other hand, runs on bigger 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 225/40 tyres (exclusively available in Malaysia), which delivers exceptional sporty feeling and handling capabilities, claims Toyota.

    Front profile

The non-GR Sport Corolla features a glossy black radiator front grille with plating while the GR Sport trim gets a GR Sport-designed radiator upper grille and lower grille and a GR Sport-designed bumper, highlighting and uplifting the aesthetics for a more streamlined look. The Toyota badge on the front also features a black trim around it.

    Rear profile

The rear profile of the two sedans also appears different, courtesy of the distinctive bumpers. The bumper of the non-GR Sport maintains a standard design, while the GR Sport takes it a step further with an added diffuser-like element.

    Underbody cover

The Corolla GR Sport also comes kitted with a front underbody protector adding to the sedan’s bolder and robust appearance. No such cover is available on the non-GR Sport variant.

    Wing mirrors

The Corolla GR Sport also distinguishes itself from the standard Corolla with its striking black wing mirrors. This small yet noticeable feature adds a touch of sportiness and enhances its appeal to those who seek a car with both performance and visual flair.

    Interior colour and trim

When it comes to interior colour and trim, there's a noticeable difference between the two Corolla versions. The standard Corolla looks classic with a black interior, however, the same black interior is elevated with striking red stitching in the Corolla GR Sport  The red colour adds a pop of sporty elegance and highlights the car’s performance and style.

    Seats

The Corolla GR Sport also sets itself apart from the standard Corolla with sport seats that come wrapped in leather. According to Toyota, the seats offer an enhanced level of comfort and unparalleled support. We can also notice the GR logo on the seat’s headrests, along with red stitching and side shoulder covers.

    GR badges

The Toyota Corolla GR Sport embraces the Gazoo Racing heritage with lots of GR badges that add a touch of exclusivity and act as a visual representation of the car's more dynamic driving experience. These badges can be found on the car’s boot lid, seats, engine start button, and floor mats.

    Colours

UMW Toyota offers the new Corolla in five striking hues - Celestite Grey Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Metal Stream Metallic, Red Mica Metallic, and Attitude Black. As for the GR Sport model, only three options are available viz. Red Mica Metallic, Platinum White Pearl MC, and Attitude Black.

So, those were the key distinctions between the 2023 Toyota Corolla and Corolla GR Sport. Which of these would you prefer to buy? Let us know in the comments.
