Generally, it is believed that midsize sedans aren’t appreciated for their performance, but Mazda6 rules that in its favour quite handsomely. It offers much more than an average midsize sedan.

The Mazda6 boasts finest of designs and gives buyers an attractive suite of options to choose from, with three gasoline and one diesel engine options. On top of it, the sedan is available in different body styles - touring type and sedan. The Mazda6 has you covered on all parameters you can think of. What’s special?

The inclusion of G-Vectoring Control system makes the Mazda6 even more valuable. The system aids in handling and improves agility. Other than this what makes the Mazda6 special is the i-ELOOP regenerative braking mechanism that captures lost energy during deceleration and stores it inside a revolutionary capacitor to power the electrical equipment on the car.

Additionally, the upgraded tech department ticks all the right boxes to make it even more special. A complete LED lighting solution at the front as well as at the back satisfies the illumination needs. There is a new and better 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MZD Connect. Electronic parking brake is offered as standard too.

Engine options

Powering the Mazda6 sedan is the automaker’s SkyActiv Technology, which has evolved over the years, contributing consistently to its refinement, driving dynamics and efficiency capabilities. Thanks to the technology that Mazda has been awarded the title of the greenest car manufacturer twice.

Offered in both gasoline and diesel, the Mazda6 gives you three engine options to choose from - SkyActiv-G 2.0L, SkyActiv-G 2.5L and the SkyActiv-D 2.2L.

Variants

There are four variants available -

Mazda6 SkyActiv-G 2.0 Sedan

It is the latest to the lineup, powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder DOHC SkyActiv-G engine with an electronically controlled direct injection system that produces a max power of 153 PS and a torque of 200Nm.

Mazda6 SkyActiv-G 2.5 Sedan

This variant, on the other hand, draws from a 2.5-litre four-cylinder DOHC SkyActiv-G engine with a direct injection system that’s good enough for 188PS of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque.

Mazda6 SkyActiv-G 2.5 Hatch Touring

Different body type, but comes with the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder DOHC SkyActiv-G engine with the same power and torque outputs,188PS and 250Nm.

Mazda6 SkyActiv-D 2.2 Sedan

Lastly, we have a diesel variant where power is supplied via a 2.2-litre four-cylinder DOHC SkyActiv-D engine with power and torque rated at 175PS and 420Nm respectively.

All four variants are blessed with SkyActiv DRIVE 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.

Exterior, interior and features

The Mazda6 2.0 gets halogen headlamps with auto on/off function, LED rear combination taillights, rain-sensing wipers, power foldable side mirrors with turn signals and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard. Moreover, the sedan features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, electronic parking brake, electronic cruise control, dual-zone auto climate control, power-adjustable front seats with memory function.

The advanced technology pack includes features like G-Vectoring Control and i-Stop Idling. On the entertainment front, it gets an upgraded 7-inch infotainment system with touchscreen, 6 speakers and MZD Connect that offer support for Bluetooth, AUX, CD, MP3, AM/FM, 2-USB ports.

The Mazda6 2.5 sedan is, on the other hand, a more premium offering with 19-inch wheels, complete LED lighting, power sunroof, full-colour Mazda head-up display and paddle shifter. In addition to the features on the Mazda6 2.0, it gets built-in GPS, 11-speaker Bose Surround sound system and Mazda i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system.

The touring version of the Mazda6 2.5 shares everything with its sedan counterpart expect its body type. It is 65mm shorter and 40mm taller than the Mazda6 sedan, sports a wheelbase of 2750mm.

Talking about the diesel Mazda6 2.2, it carries over all the features from the gasoline variant expect one, that is the Mazda i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system, which reuses energy to power the electric equipment.

Safety

As far as safety is concerned, the base Mazda6 2.0 variant gets features like the anti-lock braking system, dynamic stability control, electronic brake-force distribution, emergency brake assist, traction control system, emergency stop signal, 6 SRS airbags. Additionally, there are ISOFIX child anchors, seat-belts with pretensioners and emergency locking retractor.

 

Aside from these standard ones, the higher-end Mazda6 comes equipped with smart safety features like adaptive LED headlamps, smart city brake support, lane departure warning system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and lane keep assist system.

Colors

You get four shades to satisfy your visual appetite - Sonic Silver Metallic, Meteor Grey, Snowflake White Pearl and Soul Red Metallic.

Pricing

The Mazda6 2.0 is priced at RM165,518 while the Mazda6 2.5 sedan and the Mazda6 2.5 touring type retails for RM201,007 and RM 205,007 respectively. The priciest of the lot is the Mazda6 2.2 SkyActiv-D, priced at RM209,190.

Some additional information

Mazda6 comes with a 5-year or 100,000km manufacturing warranty, whichever reaches first. There is a free maintenance period of 3 years or 60,000 kms, whichever reaches first. Not just this, Mazda customers are also entitled to avail a free 3-year scheduled maintenance which includes parts, lubricants and labour.
