Choosing your 2024 car: Perhaps these anticipated car launches in Malaysia will help make up your mind
The Malaysian automotive scene is set for an exciting year in 2024, with a range of new cars slated for release. These upcoming models are set to cater to a wide array of preferences, from sleek electric vehicles to refreshed versions of popular models.
BYD Seal
The BYD Seal is an eagerly anticipated electric sedan, expected to offer good range, excellent driving dynamics and advanced tech features, potentially shaking up the electric vehicle market in Malaysia. It will be the Tesla Model 3’s direct competitor.
Proton X50 facelift
The Proton X50, already one of the most popular vehicles in Malaysia, is expected to receive a facelift in 2024. This update may include design tweaks and possibly new features to enhance its appeal. The test mule has already been spotted many times, so it’s just a matter of when.
Proton X70 facelift
Similarly, the Proton X70 is set to receive a facelift. As a well-received SUV, the new changes are likely to focus on updating its aesthetics and improving technological features. Just like the X70, the test mule has been roaming around the country, but we expect it to be unveiled at the end of the year, making way for the X50 facelift first.
Neta U
The Neta U is an electric vehicle that promises to bring stylish design and efficient electric performance to Malaysian roads, appealing to environmentally conscious drivers. Its main draw will probably be its low price, and we shall find out how low in Q2 of 2024.
Volvo EX30
Volvo's entry into the compact electric SUV market, the EX30, is expected to offer premium features and a sustainable driving experience, aligning with Volvo's commitment to electrification. Apparently, their target market for the EX30 is youths, from as low as 20 years old.
Peugeot 408
The Peugeot 408, a new addition to the brand's lineup, might offer a unique blend of sedan and crossover elements, with a focus on a comfortable and dynamic driving experience. It was introduced globally in 2022, and it has been seen testing in Malaysia in 2023.
Chery OMODA E5
This model from Chery is expected to be a new entrant in the SUV EV category, offering a blend of modern design and technology, and most importantly, an affordable EV. Chery has already previewed the car, and apparently, it will be launched in March.
Jaecoo J7 AWD
The Jaecoo J7 AWD could be a new player in the competitive SUV market, bringing all-wheel drive capabilities and likely a host of modern features. Chery’s Jaecoo brand officially landed in Malaysia last month, and we can’t wait to see the handsome off-road conceptualised SUV on our roads.
MG4 Electric
The MG4 Electric is anticipated to be an affordable electric vehicle option, bringing MG's signature design and efficiency to the electric car segment. This will also mark MG’s debut in Malaysia.
GAC GS3 Emzoom
The GAC GS3 Emzoom might offer a fresh option in the SUV market, featuring good looks, performance and innovative technology. The Malaysian spec GS3 will be GAC’s first right-hand drive car, specifically tailored for us.
New Mitsubishi Triton
Mitsubishi's popular pickup truck, the Triton, has been updated and now features more rugged appeal and functionality, keeping it competitive in the pickup truck market. We’re pretty sure that there are many Triton fans out waiting impatiently for it.
Mitsubishi Xforce
The Mitsubishi Xforce, known for its aggressively rugged looks could be one of the most popular car launches in Malaysia this year. Considering that Mitsubishi specifically designed the SUV to handle the rough stuff, we can see it becoming attractive for families who like to participate in active lifestyle activities.
Kia Carens
The Kia Carens, a versatile family car known for its spacious interior and practicality, could be making its way to Malaysia if MIDF research is to be believed. They said that the compact 7-seater would be introduced in CKD form along with the fifth-gen Kia Sportage CKD.
Along with the earlier mentioned models like the BYD SEAL, Proton X50 and X70 facelifts, Neta U, Volvo EX30, Peugeot 408, Chery OMODA E5, Jaecoo J7 AWD, MG4 Electric, and GAC GS3 Emzoom, these cars represent a significant shift in the Malaysian automotive market towards more diverse, technologically advanced, and environmentally friendly vehicle options. The inclusion of both electric and conventionally powered vehicles suggests that Malaysian consumers will have a wide range of choices to suit different preferences and needs.
