2018 Proton Preve - All you need to know about the new C-segment sedan

The compact sedan market is growing like crazy. Buyers are drawn towards them because they combine the sophistication of a full-blow sedan with a price tag that's slightly above the hatch segment. Taking advantage of the flourishing sedan market, Proton recently launched the all-new 2018 Proton Preve in Malaysia.

Unlike the previous model, the new Preve looks fresh and vibrant. With its killer looks and upscale features, the Preve will sure give a tough competition to the likes of Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cruze, and Honda Civic. What however caught our attention is its super affordable price tag, which we think will fulfill many people’s car owing dream.

Let’s start from the very beginning, when and where did the refreshed Preve first appeared?

The 2018 Preve took an altogether different approach for its arrival. The sedan quietly appeared on Proton’s website that recently underwent a major revamp. Thus, leaving the auto world and prospective sedan buyers awe-struck.

Next up was the 2018 Malaysian Auto Show were Proton officially launched the new Preve. Taking center stage at the event, the car looked even more stunning than in pictures.

2018 Preve Variants, Spec, and Price - Important info every buyer should know!

• Trims - Keeping it on the same lines as earlier, the new Preve is available in two trim options - Premium and Executive. Out of the two, the former one is the range-topping variant and comes with a few add-on style and utility elements.
• Engine - Powering the new Preve is a 1.6-litre Turbo engine that generates a maximum power of 140 PS at 5000 rpm along with a peak torque of 205 Nm at 2000 to 4000 rpm. In both the trims, this mill is paired with a seven-speed ProTonic transmission system.
• Performance - In looks, the 2018 Preve is more on the softer side, but when it comes to performance, the sedan holds a beast inside. The speedometer needle touches the 100 km mark in just 9.6 seconds, and it can attain a maximum speed of 190 kmph. With a minimum turning radius of 5.3 meters, manoeuvring on tight turns won’t be a problem.

• Dimension - The Preve displays measurements that do justice with its C-segment sedan tag. Its measurements chart reads 4,543 mm X 1,786 mm X 1524 mm (L X W X H). Its wheelbase and ground clearance are 2,650 mm and 155 mm respectively.
• Exterior highlights - The new Preve looks great in all senses. It gets modern styling is in-sync with the buyers' taste. The Premium variant offers Projector headlamps with LED and DRL, rear spoiler, appealing black roof and quartz black side mirror.
• Features - Enabling the Preve to compete with global players in the segment, Proton has tuned the sedan with latest features. In the list are present - auto fold ORVM with LED turn signal, audio system with Bluetooth, USB, and iPod connectivity, built-in navigation, paddle shifters, auto climate control system, trunk lid remote release, push start button, auto cruise, rain sensing wipers, and follow me home lights.

 

• Safety cover - Proton has hiked the safety features with the new Preve. And the best part is that both the trims feature the same spec, except for the Auto Headlamps that are only available with the Premium variant. Included in the list are - ABS with EBD, dual SRS airbags with seat belt pre-tensioner, side airbags, curtain airbags, front active headrest, anti-trap power window, Immobiliser, Electronic Stability Control, Brake Assist and Traction Control, top tether for child seat, and ISOFIX Seat Mountings.
• Color options - The 2018 Preve is available in five splashes - Ruby Red, Sterling Silver, Cotton White, Carnelian Brown, and Graphite Grey.
• Price - The 1.6-litre Executive CVT variant is priced at RM 67,160, and the range-topping Premium trim is available for RM 74,990.
