Recent Updates of V-Strom 1050XT
Suzuki has already confirmed that the latest V-Strom 1050 DE will be replacing the 1050 XT from 2023. The Japanese manufacturer has already launched the 2023 V-Strom DE (Dual Explorer) in Europe, however, we do not yet know when it will land on Malaysian shores. For now, the V-Strom 1050 XT is still available in its 2021 variant in the Malaysian market and comes priced at RM 81,900. Powering this motorcycle is a 1037cc liquid-cooled, DOHC 90-degree V-Twin engine that makes 107.4PS of power at 8500 rpm and 100Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. Power is delivered through a six-speed gearbox with assist and slipper clutch with chain final drive.

The adventure-touring segment has exploded in popularity in the past few years with leading manufacturers introducing motorcycles in this segment at regular intervals. The class has now spawned several sub-segments. The V-Strom 1050XT was first launched back in 2002 and was based on Suzuki’s 996cc V-twin that powered the TL1000 superbike. The 1050XT was updated in 2020 and is currently available in a single version in Malaysia.

Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT Design
The 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT retains most of the features and equipment of its predecessor and has also upgraded some of them. It comes with a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). Unlike many other bikes in its class, the 1050XT is nicely sized. It never appears intimidating to smaller riders. At the same time, it's roomy enough for taller riders. It's mounted on a fairly thin frame and offers the rider to reach the ground easily. The fuel in the tank sits quite high and is noticeable during parking manoeuvres. The fuel often gets sloshed around and may push the bike off balance. On road, the rider can quickly acclimatize to the high centre of gravity. The ergonomic adjustment of the 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT is better than average because of the adjustable handlebar and seat. The seat height can be set by inserting or removing the bushes stored under the pillion rider's seats. It can be done easily with a spanner. The position of the handlebar is adjustable. This is a big advantage for short-height riders. The seat or bar reach is still quite long for many. Adding offset bar clamps that allow fore/aft adjustment will be nice. The adjustable windscreen offers great protection against dust and windblasts. However, adjusting it is a cumbersome process. The digital information screen isn't the brightest but is still readable.
V-Strom 1050XT Ride & Handling
The mark of a truly great adventure bike is how comfortable it is on a long ride. The 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT gets a new dual-seat height that's wide and nicely padded. The riding posture is straight and the foot pegs are forward set. The suspension system may not be visually impressive. But the level of adjustability offered is good enough. The ride is on the softer side is superb, particularly over a long distance. The 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT may not be a competent canyon carver compared with other adventure-touring bikes but it still manages to absorb even the worst bumps on pebbled roads with minimal impact on the chassis.
Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT Engine & Fuel Consumption
The 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT is equipped with a liquid-cooled, two-cylinder, 1,037cc engine that produces 100 PS/101 Nm. The motor is mated to a six-speed transmission. The power and torque output re less than the larger Euro twins. It reflects Suzuki’s emphasis on midrange performance, durability, and rideability. That should be enough for the majority of the riders as the bike will be used mostly on city roads and less in the forests or hills.
V-Strom 1050XT Braking & Safety
The 2024 V-Strom 100XT comes with the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) electronics suite. It comprises cornering antilock-braking, cruise control, multimode traction control, and braking systems that compensate for hill starts, slope, and load. An updated throttle-by-wire system supports the SIRS, a new antilock-brake control unit, a new controller area network (CAN) wiring system, and a new 32-bit engine control module. Overall, the 2024 V-Strom 100XT has the best safety features in its class. The front wheel gets Tokico brakes with dual four-piston callipers that clamp onto 310mm rotors. The rear wheel gets a two-piston Nissin calliper and a single, 260-mm rotor. The high-grip tyres stop the bike instantly.
Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT Verdict
The 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT is an absolute workhorse. It's comfortable to ride for hours with causing much less fatigue than other bikes. It comes with traction control and antilock brakes. Acceleration is quick and attaining a three-digit speed even on normal roads isn't difficult. The bike is backed by Suzuki's extensive service network. The V-Strom 1050XT is fully worthy of its price.
