Modenas Kriss MR2

Compared to the basic and bare bones CT110, Modenas has tried to make the Kriss MR2 look sporty and fascinating in terms of design. The Kriss MR2 looks like it has been designed keeping the young and teenage riders in mind, who want a not-so-intimidating bike when it comes to power available.

The Modenas Kriss MR2 has a very aerodynamic and edgy design when it comes to the frontal stance. While the vertically laid angular headlamp looks simple, the presence of a small black tinted visor above it, along with the angular rear view mirrors make it look fresh and youthful. It is not only the styling where the Kriss MR2 feels one generation ahead of the basic CT110, the same sense is translated in their powertrains as well. The Kriss MR2 too is powered by a four stroke, air cooled, single cylinder, 110cc engine, however, here the engine feels a generation ahead with better tuning and refinement on board. This clearly reflects in the performance numbers as well – 9.0PS of maximum power output and 9.3Nm of peak torque output, which are in the territory of some 125cc engines.

The same sense of sportiness has been carried forward to the side profile of the Kriss MR2 as well. While the side body panels have a simple design to them, the loud colors along with bold graphics manage to liven up the appeal when the moped is viewed from the sides. The alloy wheels look trendy, while at the same time, the complete black finish for alloy wheels, engine and exhaust pipe make it look premium.

At the rear, however, things have been kept quite simple on the Kriss MR2, with a basic trapezoidal tail light being positioned below the large single grab rail. Also, given the sporty appeal of the overall bike, the instrument console lacks the flair with its simple layout, which comprises only a speedometer, odometer and a fuel gauge. Another fact which bothers is the lack of a couple of premium features which could have given it an edge as a premium 110cc moped.

Under the flashy skin of the Modenas Kriss MR2, as expected, things have been kept modest with a simple pipe backbone frame and a suspension setup of telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock with trailing link at the rear. However, the overall balance of ride quality and handling feels solid, with not much drama on road. The light kerb weight makes handling the Kriss MR2 a very easy task. Matching the sporty intentions of the Kriss MR2 is the presence of a petal disc brake at the front, which feels quite sharp give the category it belongs to.

Apart from the presence of a petal disc brake at the front, there is nothing much to get fascinated about the Kriss MR2 when it comes to the list of safety features. Understandably, the Kriss MR2 lacks the presence of a complex ABS system, however, a combined braking system would have been appreciated.

To start with, the Modenas Kriss MR2 appears out as a moped which looks sporty, but it isn’t when it comes to performance and riding dynamics. On these two fronts, it feels generic and lacks the emotion of a performance-oriented machine. However, the Kriss MR2 looks the part which should fascinate the bunch of young riders who feel that the entry-level 110cc category is underwhelming for them.
