Modenas Elegan 250

By the looks of it, the Modenas Elegan 250 gives that very European feel which people expect from a maxi-scooter. It is thoughtfully designed and looks purposeful as a 250cc entry-level maxi-scooter, thus giving it a smart road presence.

The Modenas Elegan 250 looks quite gigantic from the front, and the main credits for that go to the massive front apron design, which comes integrated with twin headlamp assemblies, each of which come fitted with LED projector bulbs. Within these headlamp units, just above the projector bubs, there are sleek and curved daytime running LEDs placed, which give a very smart looking identity to the scooter. There is a nice Y-shaped design element between the headlamps, which stretches upwards towards the big and transparent windshield. 

The lower side portions of the front fairing, which extend towards the floorboard, have been fitted with V-shaped clear lens turn indicators on their upper portions. The split floorboard is neatly designed and has knee recesses roomy enough for even taller riders. There are smooth silver finished contours on the inner portions of the floorboard partition, which flow nicely towards the rear side body panels. 

The rear side body panels of the Modenas Elegan 250 look neat, with a couple of character lines adding some sharpness to the otherwise bulky design. The Y-themed alloy wheels, which are finished in a theme of grey, too add a premium touch to the design. The stepped seat of the Modenas Elegan 250, as expected, feels very comfortable and hides in a large and capacious under-seat storage compartment, which is fitted with LED illumination too.

The rear tail lamp assembly has a split design, which too looks nice and actually works in accentuating the width of the scooter when viewed from the rear. The scooter comes with a wide handlebar which has been given a clip-on theme, and gets a wide and comprehensive instrument console behind it. This instrument console, though having a slightly dated layout, packs in enough information including analog round dials for speedometer and tachometer and a crisp LCD screen in between for other data like fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter, and clock.

The Modenas Elegan 250 has been bestowed with decently premium hardware when it comes to mechanicals, with the scooter getting slightly sportily tuned hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and dual-sided hydraulic coil springs with a trailing swingarm at the rear. The scooter rides on a 14-inch front wheel and comparatively smaller 13-inch rear wheel, which are shod with 120/80 R14 and 150/70 R13 tires respectively. A 260mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc does the fine job of bringing this large scooter to a halt. 

The Modenas Elegan 250 has been fitted with the company’s largest-ever engine for a scooter – a four-stroke, single-cylinder, two-valve, fuel-injected, 249.1cc engine. This engine, as expected, is paired to a V-belt CVT gearbox, and pumps put 22.4 PS of maximum power and 22.4 Nm of peak torque output. For a scooter that weighs a tremendously 195 kgs of weight, the performance from this engine, despite being powerful, doesn’t feel sprightly enough on the go, but it gets the job done.

Apart from a proper dual-channel ABS, the Modenas Elegan 250 also features a hidden small cubbyhole in the front apron, which comes with a 12V mobile charging socket, key shutter mechanism for ignition keyhole, and a large under-seat storage compartment with LED illumination.

The very European design and decently long equipment list of the Modenas Elegan 250 lends a very premium appeal to it, which is appreciable for the price it asks, The rest of the mechanical package too sounds great, however, the heavy kerb weight of the Modenas Elegan 250 does lead to a slight compromise when it comes to performance and low-speed handling.
