BMW R 1250 RS Design
With the last update, BMW Motorrad has made the R 1250 RS look in its most aggressive and sportiest form yet. The motorcycle now gets a few design elements from other sports bikes from BMW Motorrad, which has added a bit more aggression to the way it looks. Nevertheless, it hasn’t compromised on its sport-tourer stance, with it having a bulky design which creates an impression of a comfortable sports bike in your mind even before you ride it.
At the front, the BMW R 1250 RS welcomes one with its rakish front windscreen, which accommodates dual sleek all-LED headlamps positioned in an angular manner and has a small and pointy air vent between them at the bottom. Like a traditional sports tourer, the BMW R 1250 RS also gets a tall and transparent windscreen above the headlamps, which is manually adjustable in four steps depending on one’s preferences.
From the side, the BMW R 1250 RS further strengthens its sport-tourer stance with its long wheelbase, curvy and bulky-looking fuel tank and sharp-looking side panels. Adding more muscularity to the overall stance and appearance of the BMW R 1250 RS is the Boxer twin engine with protruding cylinders on the sides, along with the two-into-one exhaust pipe flowing from them. The Y-themed alloy wheels and partially exposed trellis frame complete the side look of the BMW R 1250 RS.
The BMW R 1250 RS has a wide tail section with a pointy rear end, which accommodates split seats above them and has a compact tail lamp assembly with LED tail light and LED turn indicators. Being a sport tourer with comfort kept on priority, this motorcycle has a single handlebar with premium quality switches and a comprehensive and modern-looking 6.5-inch TFT instrument console with multiple display modes. The BMW R 1250 RS gets a USB charging socket, with an optional list of features including heated grips and seats too.
R 1250 RS Ride & Handling
Staying true to the sports tourer ethos, the BMW R 1250 RS has a comfort-tuned suspension setup, which comprises upside-down telescopic forks at the front and cast aluminium single-sided swing-arm with BMW Motorrad Paralever, WAD mono-shock with adjustable preload and rebound damping. With a slightly upright handlebar, the BMW R 1250 RS is designed to munch miles with ease, with its sport touring abilities further strengthened by its tyres – 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear. For braking, the BMW R 1250 RS comes with twin 320mm discs at the front and a single 276mm disc at the rear.
BMW R 1250 RS Engine & Fuel Consumption
The BMW R 1250 RS comes with the same four-stroke, liquid-cooled, boxer-twin (horizontally-opposed) 1254cc engine, which also powers the R 1250 R roadster and R 1250 RT tourer. Here in the BMW R 1250 RS, this Boxer-twin engine claims 136 bhp of maximum power and 142 Nm of maximum torque, while enabling the motorcycle to cover the 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.3 seconds. This engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission and channels the power produced to the rear wheel via a shaft drive.
R 1250 RS Braking & Safety
The BMW R 1250 RS is packed with premium safety features, with the standard ones including dynamic traction control, lean-optimised ABS, three riding modes – Eco, Rain and Road, hill start control, intelligent emergency call and dynamic brake control. The list of optional safety features available for the BMW R 1250 RS includes pro riding modes, engine drag torque control, shift assistant pro, keyless ignition, cruise control, additional pro riding modes (Dynamic and Dynamic Pro), automatic hill start control and engine drag torque control.
BMW R 1250 RS Verdict
