GWM Ora Good Cat

While the Ora Good Cat has more retro influence for its exterior design, the interior properly feels like a new-age car designed for tomorrow. The layout and the features provided in the interior of this all-electric car feel very modern and intuitive to use, with three different colour combinations to choose from – dual-tone green with grey, dual-tone beige with brown and all-black.

The Ora Good Cat has a unique two-spoke round-themed multi-functional steering wheel, which has satin silver touches for the spokes and lower part of the steering wheel. Behind the steering wheel, the dashboard here has a widely-laid cockpit comprising a 7-inch full-TFT instrument console and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system placed side-by-side.

While the upper layer of the dashboard has a curved design which flows downwards, the middle layer has a sleek design, which also incorporates AC vents within it. The lower centre console looks clean with just a slim-looking panel for climate control buttons. Between the front seats, there is a centre panel that houses the rotary-style transmission lever and electronic parking brake.

The cabin of the Ora Good Cat gets a few more appealing features like a panoramic sunroof, foldable leather seats, a wireless charger, a 6-way powered driver’s seat with memory function, and a driver massage seat.

While most of the new-age electric vehicles are trying to look futuristic, the Ora Good Cat has played the nostalgia card by having a neo-retro design, which will take you back to the memory lanes. One might think that the Ora Good Cat has a strong influence on cars from yesteryears like Volkswagen Beetle, which can be sensed in its minimalist and curvaceous design.

The front look of the Ora Good Cat is very minimalist, with the electric hatchback getting a well-contoured bonnet with its curvy lines flowing down to the front bumper. The car misses out on a grille – it doesn’t get even an EV-specific closed grille and comes with slanted rounded all-LED headlamps. The front bumper also has a clean design, which does get silver accents at the bottom.

The Ora Good Cat has a neo-retro influence even when viewed sideways, with the side profile having a curvy design for the front and rear fenders. The door panels here do not get sharp creases, but a smooth curve that emerges from the front fender and flows to the rear fender. The car gets simple-looking five-spoke alloy wheels, which though go well with the neo-retro influence of the car.

The Ora Good Cat looks clean but funky when viewed from the rear, with the slanted boot lid having a fuss-free design with wide-spaced badges. The rear windscreen of the car comes integrated with a pixelated LED lighting bar at its lower portion, while additional lights are provided in the lower corners of the rear bumper.  

Given its positioning as a modern city haulier, the Ora Good Cat is one easy-to-ride hatchback with electric power steering and a suspension setup of Macpherson independent suspension at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. While the ride quality of the Ora Good Cat feels comfortable, the steering feels lifeless, especially at higher speeds.

Both the variants of the Ora Good Cat are powered by a single motor setup, which produces 143 PS of maximum power and 210 Nm of maximum torque. The Ora Good Cat has a claimed top speed of 152 kmph. While the 400 Pro has a 47.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which claims 400 km of range, the 500 Ultra has a 63.1 kWh ternary lithium battery which promises a 500 km range. There are three driving modes – Normal, Eco, Eco+, Auto, and Sport.

Great Wall Motors has provided the Ora Good Cat with plenty of safety features, such as an auto-reversing assistant, 360-degree parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, and full auto-integrated parking. More features include adaptive cruise control, intelligent cruise assistance, traffic jam assist, intelligent turning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, low-speed emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centring assist, emergency lane keeping, lane change assist, blind spot detection, front and rear parking sensors, rear collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear cross-traffic braking. The list also includes essentials like front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control, cornering brake control, hill start assist, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
