BMW introduces the updated S 1000 R superbike

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Motorrad has pulled the wraps off the 2023 S 1000 R for the international markets. As a part of the annual update, the German superbike benefits from revised colour options and some minor tech upgrades. Let’s discuss these changes in detail.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What’s new on the 2023 BMW S 1000 R?

The 2023 BMW S 1000 R benefits from revised colour options and some minor tech upgrades.
  • What powers the 2023 BMW S 1000 R?

The 2023 BMW S 1000 R is powered by a 999-cc, in-line four-cylinder engine that kicks out 165 hp of maximum power and 114 Nm of peak torque.
  • For a significant distinction over the predecessor, the new BMW S 1000 R dons in a new colour scheme. The base-spec version now comes with a Blackstorm Metallic which replaces the Racing Red shade. The latest paintwork gives the bike an entirely blacked-out appearance with white badging on the tank shrouds.

The Sport package, on the other hand, is now offered in Bluestone Metallic with Black Storm, which replaces the Hockenheim Silver available earlier.

Coming on the BMW S 1000 R tech updates, here we find a new RDC, also known as the tyre pressure monitoring system. As the name suggests, this system monitors the pressure of the bike’s tyres and valves in real-time and warns the rider in the case of any issue. Along with that, the German superbike now also comes with the ability to turn off the self-cancelling indicators.

No changes have been made on the mechanical front. This means the bike continues to get power from the same 999-cc, in-line four-cylinder engine that churns out a maximum power output of 165 hp at 11,000 rpm and a peak torque of 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed gearbox.

Other continuing key specs of the 2023 BMW S 1000 R include -

    • 6.5-inch TFT instrument panel with smartphone connectivity
    • LED headlight and tail light
    • 17-inch cast aluminium wheels
    • Muscular 17-litre fuel tank
    • A wide handlebar paired with a split-type seats
    • 830 mm seat height with an optional 810 mm lower seat
    • Disc brakes on both axles with cornering ABS, traction control, and wheelie control
    • Four riding modes - Road, Rain, Dynamic, and Dynamic Pro
    • Fully-adjustable 46 mm inverted front forks and an adjustable rear mono-shock unit

We hope the updated BMW S 1000 R will soon make its way to the Malaysian shores.
