Say hello to the 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in August, Triumph unveiled the pre-production prototype of the new Tiger Sport 660, and now it finally pulled the wraps off its road-ready version. Based on the Trident 660, the 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 comes with design changes, new tech systems, and the same mechanical setup. It rivals the likes of the Yamaha Tracer 7, Kawasaki Versys 650, and Honda CB500X.

In terms of design, the bike has got a new face reminiscent of the Daytona 675, which also looks similar to the Aprilia RS 660 if we see a small air duct between the LED headlights. The half fairing is also completely redesigned with sharp cuts and clean edges along with arrow-head tank extensions. However, if we talk about the rear end, it is quite conventional and fails to match up with the exciting front look.

The rider’s triangle also gains some changes in the form of an increased seat height of 835 mm and a wider handlebar in comparison to the Trident. The pillion seat is also flattered and fitted with large grab handles. Other significant inclusions are:

  • One-hand-adjustable windscreen
  • LED lighting all around
  • Multi-functional instrument panel with a clear TFT display
  • Two riding modes - Road and Rain
  • Switchable traction control
  • 17-litre fuel tank
  • 17-inch wheels with Michelin Road 5 tyres

Powering the Tiger Sport 660 is the same Euro5-compliant 660cc engine unit available with the Trident 660. With the same tuning, the mill churns out a maximum power output of 81 PS at 10,250 rpm and a peak torque of 64 Nm at 6250 rpm. It is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox and slip/assist clutch.

As for suspension, it gets 41 mm Showa USD forks and a Showa rear mono-shock. The braking duties are handled by twin 310 mm discs with 2-piston Nissin sliding calipers on the front, a single 255 mm disc at the rear, and dual-channel ABS.

Triumph offers the new Tiger Sport 660 in three colours - Lucerne Blue & Sapphire Black, Korosi Red & Graphite, and Graphite & Black. Set to hit the UK showrooms next year in January at a price of £8,450 (RM 48,066), the bike is also expected to land on the Malaysia shores soon.
