2021 Aprilia RS 125 and Tuono 125 unveiled
KUALA LUMPUR: After unveiling the all-new Tuono 660 and RSV4 1100 bikes, the Italian bike maker Aprilia is again in the headlines for its two updated models - 2021 RS 125 and Tuono 125. Targeting the young riders, these upgraded entry-level street bikes received a number of updates for a more appealing presence and relevance in the market.
In terms of design, the Aprilia 125-cc twins now boast new styling features similar to their 660 versions. The front fascia has the same type of all-LED lighting unit combining headlight, daytime run lights, and turn signals. Wrapped in refreshed bodywork and new paint schemes, the two models have a fully digital instrument panel on the front, that is on offer in white and light blue backlighting. Added to the convenience bits are Bluetooth connectivity for smartphones, a charging port, and an under-seat storage area.
Speaking about the colour options; the 2021 Aprilia RS 125 is on offer in two shades - Aprilia Black and Sintesi Blue. A GP Replica version is also available that also has a single-seat tail fairing and an electronic quick-shifter. On the other hand, the 2021 Aprilia Tuono 125 colour choices include Aprilia Black, Lightning White, and Arrow Gray.
On the power front, the new 125-cc Aprilias are fitted with the same engine as earlier models, however, the mill is tweaked according to the Euro 5 emission norms. The power output of the re-tuned engine remains the same at 15.2 PS from 10,750 rpm. A 6-speed gearbox is coupled with it to send power to the ground.
Included in the mechanical revisions are a new cylinder head unit with new intake and exhaust channels, a reshaped combustion chamber, and a new iridium spark plug. The automaker also updated the exhaust system, which now uses a better catalyst. In place of a 60-tooth rear sprocket, there is now a 58-tooth sprocket, which resulted in more responsive performance and better handling in urban environments, according to Aprilia.
The 2021 RS 125 and Tuono 125 rolls on new Michelin tyres, 100/80-17-inch at the front and a 140/70-17-inch at the back. The rear wheel has an asymmetrical swingarm with a mono-shock providing 4.7-inch of travel. Speaking about the braking system, there is a four-piston radial-mount caliper with a 300 mm disc on the front and a single-piston caliper with a 218 mm disc on the rear. A new dual-channel ABS from Bosch is also standard.
Aprilia’s new 125-cc bikes are set to hit the European markets soon.
