Top 10 bikes launched in Malaysia in 2024

The year 2024 has been a thrilling one for the Malaysian automotive landscape, with several exciting launches not just in the world of cars but also in motorcycles. While we have already highlighted the top 10 car launches, it’s time to explore the top bike launches of the year that have captured the attention of enthusiasts and riders as well.

Yamaha Tenere 700

Yamaha added a few new models to its Malaysian lineup this year; one of which is the adventure-ready, the Tenere 700. Priced at RM 69,988 (excluding road tax, insurance, and registration), the bike is offered as a locally assembled model in Malaysia. It is powered by a 689-cc Crossplane 2 liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine tuned to deliver 72.4 hp at 9,000 rpm and 68 Nm at 6,500 rpm. 

Key highlights include - race-bred suspension, 240 mm ground clearance, disc brakes with switchable ABS functionality, 4-LED headlight, LED tail light, 21-inch front, and 18-inch rear wheel, and a 5-inch TFT-coloured instrument console.

Honda CB350RS

Boon Siew Honda introduced the scrambler version of the CB350, the CB350RS, in Malaysia this year. Designed to offer riders a dynamic riding experience, the bike retails for RM 20,500 (excluding road tax, insurance, and registration).

The 2024 Honda CB350RS runs on a 348-cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine good form making 20.8 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 30 Nm of peak torque at 3,000 rpm. Key highlights include - a classic round LED headlamp, a digital-analogue instrument console, Honda Selectable Torque Control, 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel, non-adjustable telescopic front forks and preload-adjustable twin shock absorbers, disc brakes, and two-channel ABS.

Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX

Another big launch of the year 2024 was the Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX. This quarter-litre adventurer tourer combines the excitement of a sports vehicle with the practicality of a crossover. Priced at RM 17,800, the bike is powered by a 249-cc 4-stroke oil-cooled SOHC engine tuned to deliver 26.5 PS of maximum power at 9,300 rpm and 22.2 Nm of torque at 7,300 rpm. 

The V-Strom 250 SX boasts rugged and adventure-inspired looks and comes equipped with an LED headlight and tail light, a digital speedometer, disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, and a telescopic front suspension setup.

Honda XL750 Transalp

Honda’s adventure-touring, the XL750 Transalp, also made its way to Malaysia this year to rival the likes of the Tenere 700. It is designed for thrill-seekers and mountain conquerors and comes packed with a 755-cc, parallel twin-cylinder engine, which generates 90.5 hp of power at 9,500 rpm and 75 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. 

Other key highlights include - Full LED lighting, a large integrated windscreen, a 5.0-inch TFT instrument panel, Honda Smartphone Voice Control System, Traction control, Ride-by-wire, riding modes, USD front forks, and preload-adjustable rear mono-shock, 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel, and disc brakes.

CFMoto 675 SR-R

The Chinese motorcycle CFMoto brought a new middleweight sports bike to the local shores this year, called the 675 SR-R. It features a rugged design with classic sportbike aesthetics and a robust 675-cc engine tuned to make 94 hp at 11,000 rpm and 70 Nm at 8,250 rpm. 

The key highlights include - a 5-inch curved instrument cluster, USB charging ports, Two-level Traction Control system, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, 17-inch wheels, an advanced suspension system featuring adjustable hydraulic damping at both ends, disc brakes with a dual-channel ABS system and an innovative brake cooling system. The CFMoto 675 SR-R retails for RM 37,888 in Malaysia.

Aveta VTM 250

Aveta caused a stir in the adventure bike segment with the introduction of the affordable VTM 250. Priced at RM 12,988, this Made-in-Malaysia adventure bike is affordable enough to make dirt biking accessible to everyone.

The Aveta VTM 250 is offered in two versions - LX and M, designed for off-road adventures and street use, respectively. Both are powered by a 250cc single-cylinder oil-cooled 4-stroke SOHC engine generating 18.8 hp of power at 8,500 rpm and 18 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The suspension is handled by USD front fork and preload-adjustable rear mono-shock while the braking setup comprises a single-channel ABS system.

Triumph Daytona 660

Triumph introduced its smallest modern sports bike, the Daytona 660, in Malaysia this year. Priced at RM 49,500, the bike is powered by a 660-cc engine making 95 PS of maximum power at 11,520 rpm and 69 Nm of peak torque at 8,250 rpm. 

Key features include - Triumph Shift Assist up-and-down quick-shifter, three driving modes, an Emergency Deceleration Warning system, a digital instrument console with My Triumph connectivity system, Showa suspension setup, 17-inch wheels, disc brakes, and a two-channel ABS.

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650

Malaysia also welcomed the highly-anticipated Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 this year. This urban motorcycle captivates enthusiasts with its retro-futuristic design and a range of customisation options. The price ranges from RM 34,900 to RM 35,900.

At its heart lies a 648-cc parallel twin, SOHC, air-oil-cooled engine producing 46.3 hp at 7250 rpm and 52.3 Nm at 5650 rpm. The bike comes equipped with an LED headlight and LED tail light, gloss aluminium switchgear with adjustable gears, an ergonomically optimized bucket seat, a digital-analogue cluster with an integrated tripper navigation system, and dual-channel ABS. It rides on an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear mated to Showa USD front forks and twin rear shocks.

Kawasaki ZX-6R

The all-new Kawasaki ZX-6R made its official debut in Malaysia at the 2024 MotoGP event. Inspired by the ZX-10R, this high-performance supersport motorcycle combines advanced technology with sharp styling. At the core lies a 636-cc inline four-cylinder Euro 5 compliant engine dishing out 124 PS at 13,000 rpm and 69 Nm of torque at 10,800 rpm.

Key features include - a 4.3-inch TFT display, 3-mode traction control, four ride modes, Showa USD front forks, fully adjustable mono-shock, and disc brakes. The Kawasaki ZX-6R price tag reads RM 59,900 (excluding insurance and road tax).

BMW S 1000 XR

BMW Motorrad brought the upgraded version of the S 1000 XR to Malaysian shores this year. Priced at RM 129,500, this high-performance German bike is powered by a mighty 999cc engine generating a whooping power of 170 hp at 11,000 rpm and 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. 

The BMW S 1000 XR comes packed with a bag full of advanced features including Dynamic Traction Control, Wheelie Control, Shift Assist Pro, Keyless Ride, ABS Pro, Dynamic ESA Pro suspension, LED lighting all-around, four riding modes, and a USB charging interface system.
