Wheelcorp Premium opens a new charging facility for Mini EVs
KUALA LUMPUR: While electric vehicles are quite a rage these days, they are still not getting much traction in Malaysia and the reason is inadequate EV charging infrastructure. To address this issue, automakers are now coming up with new charging facilities. The recent one is a new MINI Charging facility introduced by Wheelcorp Premium.

The opening ceremony of the new MINI charging facility was witnessed by representatives from MINI Malaysia, Wheelcorp Premium, Eco Sanctuary, and JomCharge.
Upon launching the new charging facility, Wheelcorp Premium Managing Director Jayden Liew said, “With the rising uptake of electrified vehicles in Malaysia, we – the providers of these automobiles, consider it one of our main responsibilities to ensure that sufficient infrastructure is in place to support this demand. The positive reception for Electrified Mobility in recent times, bolstered by the many initiatives by our local government, has been a welcome sight for us; and we are committed to developing the EV landscape further for our customers, alongside BMW Group Malaysia.”
Adding to that, Eco Sanctuary Assistant General Manager, Max Leong Yew Mun said, “Sustainability is EcoWorld’s number one core value and we are always on the lookout to actively engage with organisations that share common sustainability goals. By supporting Wheelcorp Premium’s drive to roll out more charging facilities, we are also making good progress on our own ESG goals, which is to ensure that all EcoWorld projects have at least one EV charging station.”
The new facility is part of BMW Group Malaysia's strategy to develop the required charging infrastructure in the country. The automaker has opened a total of 670 charging facilities, of which 360 are in partnership with ChargEV and Yinson Greentech. Also, In association with JomCharge and Gentari, the automaker has been offering charging solutions at 70 and 150 facilities, respectively.
