Volvo XC40 gets updated for 2022; new design, features, and variants

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo introduced the XC40 compact crossover, the XC40 five years ago and now the car has been finally updated for 2022. In its updated version, the XC40 not only benefits from a few visual enhancements but gets a bunch of new features.

Let’s first discuss the 2022 Volvo XC40 design updates -

Most of the style-related revisions are done on the crossover’s front fascia, most of which seem inspired by the C40 electric coupe-SUV. For instance, the headlight is more compact with a more triangular profile. The front bumper is also revised with more vertical corner faux air intakes and diagonal slats.

The full-electric variant, the XC40 Recharge, also is part of the facelift. It now features an additional blanked-off grille (inspired by the C40).

The 2022 Volvo XC40 also now gets a range of new exterior hues and several wheel options for customers to choose from.

2022 Volvo XC40 interior revisions -

The revisions on the inside are fairly limited to new upholstery options, including a new wool textile limited for the XC40 Recharge model and a new Android Automotive infotainment operating system running on both the screens (the infotainment and instrument cluster).

What else?

For the model year 2022, Volvo has revised the trim level offerings for the XC40. The ongoing lineup that included Momentum, Inscription, and R-Line variants is now replaced by a new range including Essential, Core, Plus, and Ultimate. As per Volvo, this new XC40 range would help increase price transparency and reduce model complexity.

Any change in XC40’s under the hood configuration?

No. The powertrain configuration appears to remain unchanged with the engine options varying globally. The electric XC40 Recharge will however source its power from a new single-motor P6 option with 231 hp driving the front wheels.
