Volvo EX90 coming to Malaysia; here's what to expect

Volvo is set to become a fully electric car brand by the end of 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. Aligning with the company's global mission, Volvo Car Malaysia now offers BEVs, PHEVs, and MHEVs in the country, but there is no pure ICE-powered model on sale. This year, VCM will further expand its electric lineup with the launch of the EX90.

Globally revealed in 2022, the Volvo EX90 is a 7-seater electric SUV that slots above the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge. It sets new standards in terms of safety, sustainability, and human-centric technology and aims to make people’s lives easier and more enjoyable.

In today’s story, we'll take a closer look at the upcoming Volvo EX90, highlighting its design, drivetrain, and features.

Volvo EX90 Dimensions

The EX90 is based on Volvo’s next-gen, born-electric EV technology and measures 5,037 mm in length, 1,964 mm in width, and 1,747 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,985 mm. Compared to the XC90, it is 87 mm longer, 41 mm wider, and 29 mm shorter.

Representing the brand’s vision for future electric mobility, the EX90 boasts an evolutionary design language with a sleek and aerodynamic appearance, making it look like a road-going spaceship. 

The key exterior highlights include - 

• A closed panel with a diagonal line and Volvo badge

• A prominent bump on the roof for LiDAR sensors
• 22-inch aero-optimised wheels
• Flush door handles
• C-shaped tail lights with lower parts stretching to the boot lid

The interior looks hi-tech and luxurious with premium finishings, elegant touches, and a core computing system, which remains connected always and can be improved over time through software updates. 

In terms of features, the Malaysia-spec EX90 is most likely to mimic the version available in the Thai market. As per that, we can expect the EV to come with the following appointments -

Speaking of sustainable materials, the EV incorporates Nordico upholstery, which is made from recycled PET bottles and bio-based materials. This wool-blend fabric does not have any negative impact on the environment.

Equipped with Luminar LiDAR technology, the Volvo EX90 features an invisible safety shield with cutting-edge sensors inside and outside. Parts of the safety pack are multiple airbags and a variety of standard safety technologies, including

Volvo EX90 Price

While no information is yet available on the Volvo EX90 pricing in Malaysia, we can refer to the Thai market for an idea. The Thai-spec model comes in Plus (Twin Motor) and Ultra (Twin Motor Performance) variants, priced at THB 4.29 million (approx RM 565k) and THB 4.89 million (approx RM 644k), respectively.
