Volvo delays EX90s production; more time for testing & software development

KUALA LUMPUR: One of the most anticipated Volvo’s, the upcoming EX90 was scheduled for a soon debut. Things, however, have taken a bit of a U-Turn as the automaker has delayed the production to early next year.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will Volvo EX90 get launched in Malaysia?

Volvo Cars Malaysia is expected to include the all-new EX90 EV in its lineup soon after its global launch.
  • What powers the upcoming Volvo EX90?

the upcoming EX90 mechanical setup will include twin e-motors pumping out a maximum power of 517 PS along with a peak torque of 910 Nm.
  • Why? Well, as we all know the EX90 is one of the most advanced cars in the automaker’s lineup so far, meaning it will have onboard several advanced technologies like the LiDAR. All of which require backing up by equally proficient software followed by thorough testing rounds. The same two factors are the cause of the delay in EX90’s production.

A little more wait for Volvo’s upcoming fully-electric SUV won’t be an issue. The output would be a stunning, well-equipped car that has been tagged as the “safest Volvo car to ever hit the road”.

Volvo EX90’s much-talked-about safety profile includes several advanced safety features. The LiDAR sensor being the most notable one, mounted on top of the car, it can measure ranges with high precision and fidelity.

In addition, the EX90 will also get the ‘most advanced sensor set in the market’, comprising 8 cameras, 5 radars, and 16 ultrasonic sensors.

With such a well-equipped safety front, Volvo aims for a 20% reduction in serious accidents in the EX90, along with zero deaths and serious injuries in new Volvo cars.

As for power, the upcoming EX90 mechanical setup will include twin e-motors pumping out a maximum power of 517 PS along with a peak torque of 910 Nm. The motors are fueled by a 111 kWh battery, delivering a range of up to 600 km.

Volvo’s electric SUV will get charged via a 250 kWh DC charger, going from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes. Can’t wait that long, go for a 10-minute charge and a 180 km of range.
