Volkswagen teases the 2020 Golf GTD, to be unveiled soon
KUALA LUMPUR: The VW 2020 Golf GTD is slated to be revealed at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. Ahead of the event, the German auto manufacturer has released a teaser image of the eighth-gen Golf GTD that shows a revised lower air intake section, which gets honeycomb grille, with chequered flag-style lights at either end.
Along with this, there is an illuminating bar connecting the headlamps, with the brand’s logo positioned in the centre and GTD emblem on the one side near the headlamp.
The new Golf GTD is said to have the "cleanest turbo diesel injection (TDI) engine ever to be installed in a Golf". Additionally, there will be two SCR catalytic converters with an AdBlue injector for each. Also, it will have "one of the cleanest combustion engines in the world", according to the automaker.
While emissions are supposed to be reduced, its performance is expected to be improved. The actual performance numbers are not known as of now. We’ll have to wait until the grand reveal happens next month in Geneva.
The outgoing GTD is, however, powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 184 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque. It is capable of sprinting to 100 Kmph from zero in 7.5 seconds. Its claimed fuel efficiency is around 22 Kmpl.
