UMW Toyota ensures the Vios safety; no recalls amidst Daihatsu crash test issue

KUALA LUMPUR: Last week, Toyota’s subsidiary Daihatsu highlighted a procedural irregularity in the testing of four cars, of which two are on sale in Malaysia, one is the 2023 Toyota Vios and the other is the 2023 Perodua Axia. Shortly after it, UMW Toyota Motor issued an official statement on the matter confirming that the local Vios buyers need not worry.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Does the Daihatsu crash test issue have an impact on the Toyota Vios?

There is no impact of the Daihatsu crash test issue on the Toyota Vios’s safety. The sedan meets the required UN-R95 certification and thus there will be no recall and its sales will continue without disruption.
  • The company has announced that the sales of the sedan will continue as there are no issues with the safety standards and quality of the vehicle.

President of UMW Toyota Motor, Datuk Ravindran K. said, “For customers who have booked their All New Toyota Vios or are interested in purchasing it, we would like to assure you that the All-New Toyota Vios model complies with all safety regulations and there is no compromise to the quality of the vehicles.”

While giving clarification on the procedural irregularity related to the inside lining of the front seat door that violates the side collision test procedures, UMWT said that the subsequent testing has validated that the car meets the required UN-R95 certification and thus there is no need for vehicle recall and sales will continue without disruption.

“We sincerely apologise for any distress caused to our customers and we wish to assure everyone of the safety and quality of our vehicles. Our commitment to our customers’ safety has always been and remains our topmost in our priority,” he added.

Perodua has also released the official statement on the Axia safety confirming that the hatchback is safe for driving and no recall will be issued.
