Toyota Yaris gets mild updates in Malaysia; two variants on offer
KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota Motor has introduced a few updates for one of its best-selling models, the Yaris. The hatchback is now available in two variants - E and G with the discontinuation of the previously offered base-spec J trim.

The 2023 Toyota Yaris benefits from a new black-and-red themed Optitron instrument cluster, a new fabric seat pattern, two rear USB-C ports, a softer leather steering wheel and new gearshift paddles.The Yaris E is the entry-level model for the 2023 model year, which is priced at RM 83,300 (on-the-road without insurance) as earlier. On the top of the hatchback’s lineup lies the G trim that also bears the same price tag of RM 87,600 as the pre-updated model.
In terms of standard updates, the 2023 Yaris benefits from a black-and-red themed Optitron instrument cluster, a new fabric seat pattern, and two USB-C ports for the rear occupants. The new rear DVR with smartphone connectivity is offered with both variants as an optional feature.
The top-spec Yaris G, on the other hand, exclusively gets a softer leather steering wheel and new gearshift paddles.
On the exterior, things remain identical as before with the manual-levelling LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, LED fog lamps, auto-fold side mirrors, and 16-inch alloy wheels.
In terms of mechanical bits, both variants continue to get power from the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four engine as earlier. The said mill pumps out a maximum power of 107 hp and a peak torque of 140 Nm. It comes mated to a CVT gearbox with seven virtual gears.
Safety kit also remains unchanged with a total of seven airbags, a blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, hill start assist control, and the Toyota Safety Sense suite. The latter comprises a pre-collision system and lane departure alert.
The 2023 Toyota Yaris colour palette has three options to choose from - Red Mica Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, and Silver Metallic.
With each purchase of the new Yaris, UMW Toyota offers a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty against manufacturing defects as before.
