Toyota GAZOO Racing Festival Season 6 marks the debut of new Vios race car

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival Season 6 culminated in style with high-octane action on the track and tons of interesting activities. The epic finale delighted both championship contenders and the fans. During the grand finale event, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd thanked racers, teams, and fans for their support. 

The two-day finale event was held at the iconic Sepang International Circuit. During this event, four people were crowned winners of the highly competitive GR Vios Challenge race. The event not only thrilled the audiences with the on-track battles but also gave them a chance to participate in various events. It combined the joy of a vibrant festival with a motorsport competition thrill, making it a joyous celebration for the attendees.

The final two races garnered huge attention as over 4 million online viewers and 10,000 on-site spectators enjoyed them. The event also became special with the launch of the new Toyota Vios in full race trim ahead of its formal introduction in 2024 in all racing classes. 

President Datuk Ravindran K introduced the third-generation Toyota Vios to the racing scene and laid emphasis on its role in the primary racing classes (Sporting, Promotional, and Super Sporting) from 2024 to 2027.

"The format of a one-make series will be retained and further enhanced moving forward. This is in keeping with our objective to not only make the racing fair and dependent on skill but also to make motorsports more accessible in terms of cost to a greater pool of teams, racers, and enthusiasts. This also forms the very foundation of our efforts to attract and help nurture young talent," said Datuk Ravindran, adding that efforts will also be stepped up to enhance greater awareness and appreciation for Malaysian motorsports. 

Forty-five drivers competed in the Toyota GAZOO Racing Festival across different classes, such as Rookie for young talents, Super Sporting for elite drivers, Promotional for celebrities, and Sporting for amateurs. The Super Sporting Class race was a very fierce competition, with Laser Motor Racing's Eddie Lew taking 0.2 seconds lead against Tengku Djan Ley Tengku Mahaleel of the Prima Pearl TD Racing. Mitchell Cheah was announced as the winner of the Super Sporting championship. Eddie Lew secured the third rank in the championship.
