Three new Mercedes-AMG CKD models launched in Malaysia; price begins at RM 343,888

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz has launched three new locally-assembled models in Malaysia from its high-performance Mercedes-AMG division. These models include the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC, Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC, and Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC. All the new Mercedes-AMG cars are locally assembled at the brand’s Pekan facility in Pahang.

2024 Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC 

Previewed earlier this year, the all-new Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC represents a perfect blend of luxury and performance. It retails for RM 443,888 (on-the-road, without insurance). The key highlights are as follows - 

• The car is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine combining innovative technologies and high performance. Notably, it is the “world's first series-production engine to be turbocharged with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger.” The technology is derived directly from Formula 1.
• The engine delivers a maximum power of 408 PS and a peak torque of 500 Nm. It comes mated to a 48V belt-driven starter generator offering an additional boost of 14 PS.
• An AMG Speedshift MCT 9G AT is handling the transmission duties with an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
• The new AMG C43 completes the century sprint in 4.6 seconds and clocks a top speed of 250 kmph.

• Ensuring a smooth and safe ride is a Dynamic Body Control suspension featuring adaptive damping, a rear-axle steering system, and an AMG sports braking setup. The latter comprises 370 mm discs with four-piston fixed calipers at the front and 320 mm discs with single-piston floating calipers at the rear.
• The exterior design features an AMG-specific radiator grille, an AMG front apron, Digital Light headlamps, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, sporty air intakes, 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels, AMG spoiler lip, quad exhaust finishers, and Panoramic sliding sunroof.
• The Mercedes-AMG interior comes kitted with AMG sports seats wrapped in Artico synthetic leather, AMG Performance steering wheel, AMG illuminated door sills, and AMG floor mats.

• It also incorporates a 12.3-inch driver display, an 11.9-inch infotainment unit powered by MBUX, a head-up display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, a wireless mobile charger, Driving Assistance Package Plus, Parktronic active parking assist, among other things.

2024 Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC

The locally-assembled A 35 4MATIC brings the AMG experience to the compact segment while making the brand's performance-oriented cars accessible to Malaysians. It retails at RM 343,888 (on the road, without insurance), which is RM 74k more than the non-AMG A250. The key highlights of this luxury performance sedan are as follows - 

• The new Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC comes equipped with a mild hybrid combining a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and a belt-driven starter generator. The engine is tuned to deliver  306 PS and 400 Nm while the latter provides an additional 14 PS of power.
• The upgraded sedan also gets a new eight-speed AMG Speedshift 8G DCT while retaining the same 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
• Performance numbers include a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 4.8 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 250 kmph.

• In terms of visual tweaks, it features an AMG-specific radiator grille with the new AMG badging, revised front headlamps, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, a new front apron, revised tail lights, new 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, red-painted brake callipers, and the round exhaust pipes. 
• The plush and inviting cabin is kitted with an AMG Performance Nappa leather steering wheel, sports seats wrapped in Artico man-made leather, and other AMG-specific cues.

• The equipment kit comprises a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 10.25-inch infotainment unit (powered by new MBUX system), wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Thermotronic dual-zone automatic climate control, a Qi wireless charger, 710-watt Burmester sound system with 12 speakers, a 360-degree camera system, 64-colour ambient lighting, seven airbags, and Driving Assistant Package.

2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC

Priced at RM 363,888, the all-new 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC facelift comes with several cosmetic tweaks and new features, making it even more desirable. The key highlights include - 

• The performance SUV is now fitted with a new mild hybrid system, which combines a 306 PS/400 Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt belt-driven starter-generator generating 14 PS of power.
• The power is sent to all four wheels via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 8G transmission and the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
• The setup allows the SUV to run from zero to 100 kmph in 5.2 seconds and max at a top speed of 250 kmph. 
• As for enhanced safety and riding comfort, the upgraded model comes with a sportier AMG Ride Control suspension and larger brakes.

• The restyled exterior boasts a new front apron with a new geometry and grille. The front and rear lighting signatures are upgraded with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus as a standard fitment.
• The SUV runs on new 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels paired with red-painted brake callipers. 
• Inside, the new Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 features an AMG Performance steering wheel, sport seats wrapped in Artico man-made leather, dual 10.25-inch screens mated to the MBUX system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control, 64-colour ambient lighting, wireless charger, 710 watts Burmester surround sound system with 12 speakers, and several advanced driver assistance systems.

All the new locally-assembled Mercedes-AMG models are offered with a four-year, unlimited-mileage warranty against manufacturing defects.
