Say hello to the bespoke Bussink GT Speedlegend
KUALA LUMPUR: Wondering what car the Bussink GT Speedlegend is? Well, don’t pressurise your brain, as this one is a topless Speedster-style roadster built by Ronald Bussink. The man responsible for the creation is a product designer who earned his fortune in leisure facilities and amusement rides.
No, it is no ordinary backyard hack job, as Bussunk sought engineering help from the HWA AG team that ran Mercedes Formula E and DTM team two years ago. Furthermore, HWA boss Has-Werner Aufrecht was the founder of AMG, thus making the Bussink GT Speedlegend an authentic creation.
The Bussink GT Speedlegend takes inspiration from Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss and Mercedes F1 cars. To make it a reality, the HWA guys undertook a Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster donor car and replaced its convertible roof mechanism with a Speedbow - a F1 inspired pillar that goes from front of the tiny windscreen to roll hoops behind the seat.
The car uses a carbon-fibre beam that not only strips off almost 100 kg in weight, but also enhances rigidity, and lowers the centre of gravity that further improves its handling and stability. The Bussink GT Speedlegend also benefits from enhanced aerodynamics, thanks to the carbon fibre louvre on the front wheel arches.
What powers the Bussink GT Speedlegend?
Under the hood is the AMG GT R Roadster standard 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 unit making a maximum power output of 585 hp and a peak torque of 700 Nm. However, on the bespoke speedster, HWA AG team has enhanced the power output to 850 hp. In the GT R, the engine helps the car complete the century sprint in 3.6 seconds, and the Bussink GT is expected to be significantly faster.
Ronald Bussink only ordered five of these Bussink GT Speedlegend, all of which are taken by presumably Bussink’s millionaire acquaintances. He further confirmed that more such projects between him and the HWA AG team are in the pipeline and without a doubt we are looking forward to the future creations.
