Save the date - MG5 launching in Malaysia on October 3

KUALA LUMPUR: MG Motor Malaysia has officially announced that the highly anticipated MG5 fastback sedan will launch on October 3, 2024. The upcoming model marks the brand's continued expansion into the Malaysian market, wooing customers with its stylish design and advanced features. 

The automaker gave us a full preview of the MG5 back in August and revealed its specifications and estimated pricing. It is a C-segment sedan measuring 4,675 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,473 mm in height. The wheelbase is estimated at 2,680 mm. These dimensions put it in direct competition with established players like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.

However, if we look at its estimated price tag which reads RM 100k, the MG5 will be squaring up against the Proton S70 which retails between RM 73,800 - 94,800.

The MG5 boasts a coupe-like design with a bold front, and sleek, aerodynamic lines. The sporty front face features a 3D Digital Burning Grille with functional air vents, exuding a sporty and youthful character. It comes with automatic LED headlights, daytime running lights, foldable wing mirrors with LED indicators, and stylish 17-inch Tomahawak alloy wheels.

Further enhancing the MG5 dynamic look is end-to-end chrome plated trim, 3D taillights, dual exhaust tips, and a rear diffuser. Also part of the exterior design is a ducktail spoiler which enhances the car’s aerodynamics.

Hop inside the MG5 and you will be greeted by a modern and sleek cabin, offering a stylish and enjoyable riding experience. The sedan features a driver-oriented console with a 7-inch virtual cluster that displays essential vehicle information. It is paired with a floating 10.25-inch HD infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, and a single-zone Digital Air Conditioning with a PM2.5 air filter. 

The interior feels both refined and functional with bold black leather seats featuring red accents and a power sunroof with an opening of 0.324 m².

Under the bonnet of the MG5, we can find a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that is capable of generating a maximum power of 114 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 150 Nm at 4,500 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed iCVT transmission, enabling the sedan to run from zero to 100 kmph in 11.5 seconds.

The MG5 also prioritises safety with its advanced features designed to protect both driver and passengers. The safety kit includes -

MG Motor Malaysia will offer the MG5 as a CBU model, imported from Thailand. The vehicle will be covered by a five-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty; with a specific 7 year-warranty on the powertrain.
