Porsche Q1 2022 sales report showcases a rising EV interest

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only yesterday that we published the Lamborghini sales report for the first quarter of the year. And now, here is Porsche bringing in some interesting bits from its past three months' sales.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Which Porsche model sold the max units in Q1 2022?

The Cayenne sold 19,029 units in Q1 2022.
  • Did the Porsche EVs performed well in the first quarter of 2022?

The sales report suggests a hike in the sales of electric cars. With 9,470 units from the Taycan family delivered, Porsche experienced a 4 percent year-to-year increase.
  • In Q1 of 2022, Porsche sold a total of 68,426 cars globally. The table below elaborates on model-wise contribution -

    Cayenne

    19,029

    Macan

    18,329

    Taycan

    9,470

    911

    9,327

    Panamera

    7,735

    718 Boxster & 718 Cayman

    4,536

Compared to the same period last year that calls for a good 5 percent decline in overall sales. The company blames it on the exceptional circumstances the automotive industry faces (resurgence of the coronavirus and significant supply and logistical challenges). Also, some of Porsche’s production facilities were temporarily suspended.

Another exciting bit we got to know from the report is the hike in the sales of electric cars. With 9,470 units from the Taycan family delivered, Porsche experienced a 4 percent year-to-year increase.

The Taycan came out as the third most popular model with 13.8 percent of the total global sales volume. It even surpassed 911. Since Q1 of 2020, Porsche has sold 70,000 Taycan globally, with 41,000 units delivered in the last 12 months.

Here we’d like to add that in 2021, the automaker also experienced a surge in EV sales with 41,296 units sold, accounting for 106 percent year-over-year growth.

Do you think it is a hint of EVs slowly taking over the ICE-powered cars? Well, one can’t deny the fact that EVs are the future.

As for the plug-in hybrid (Panamera & Cayenne) sales, Porsche didn’t share exact sales numbers. However, we guess they have contributed noticeably to the total sales.
