One such automaker is Nissan, which has just announced the expansion of its electrified models' lineup for Europe, with six new products arriving this year.
With the decision not to invest in developing ICE units that meet the continent's Euro 7 emissions standards, the Japanese automaker aims to deliver a new era of mobility to modern-day customers. This strategy will help Nissan's long-term vision, 'Ambition 2030', for empowering mobility and beyond. Not to forget, the automaker is an EV pioneer with introducing the Leaf EV over 15 years ago.
Here, we have a list of the electric car models (3 electrified & 3 pure electric) that Nissan will launch in the Old continent this year.
Nissan JUKE Hybrid
With ICE-powered Juke selling in solid numbers in Europe, the automaker will launch a crossover with a new hybrid powertrain. The setup comprises a new 1.6-litre delivering a maximum power of 94 hp. This works in tandem with a 94-hp electric motor, a 20 hp starter-generator, and a 1.2-kWh battery pack. Optimizing the powertrain's efficiency is the switching between different set regimes (series, parallel, and series-parallel hybrid). In addition, Nissan claims the battery can deliver up to 80 percent drive in EV mode in cities.
Nissan Qashqai e-POWER
Currently, the Nissan Qashqai comes in two petrol engine options in Europe, which will be soon joined by an electrified mill largely based on the Note E-Power mill. It features a 1.5-litre engine acting as a generator for energy to be stored in a high-output battery pack. The engine kicks out 156 horsepower transmitted to the battery pack, the 190 hp electric motor, or both, as per the driving scenario, the automaker explains.
The setup also benefits from a unique Linear Tune system that monitors the ICE and progressively raises the rotation speed as per energy demands.
Nissan X-Trail e-POWER
The next EV on the automaker's cards is the X-Trail e-POWER which will also come equipped with an innovative e-POWER drivetrain and e-4ORCE all-wheel-control technology. While the details on the electric vehicle are scarce, it is expected to get the same setup as the Qashqai.
Nissan LEAF
Nissan confirmed the new LEAF for the European market last month. The latest version of the electric vehicle will get a slightly refreshed look, new badges, a new set of wheels, and new colour choices.
Inside, the upcoming Nissan LEAF will continue to feature the NissanConnect infotainment system and advanced driving assistance tech with the brand's semi-autonomous driving tech called ProPilot.
As for the powertrain will come equipped with two battery pack options - 40 kWh rated at 270 km and 62 kWh rated at 385 km on the WLTP test cycle.
Nissan Ariya
The Japanese automaker will also start the deliveries of the Ariya EV in the Old Continent this year. The crossover marks a new chapter in Nissan's electrification journey as it underpins the ingenious CMF-EV platform developed by Nissan for the Alliance. As for the Ariya range, the automaker quotes a WLTP-claimed figure of 500 km.
Nissan Townstar
The new generation of Nissan's electric light commercial vehicle, the Townstar, will also soon make its way to European roads. Nissan confirms that the upcoming LCV gets synergies with an Alliance platform. It will be fitted with a fully electric powertrain delivering 300 km of range under the WLTP combined cycle. The all-new Townstar will also be kitted with a suite of 20+ technology features.
Nissan EV sales target
With its bold steps towards delivering a new era of mobility, Nissan expects to achieve 75% of its sales mix from electrified models in Europe by 2026, with the ambition to hit the 100% mark by 2030.
Nissan electric cars in Malaysia
