Nissan showcases the brand-new Leaf at KLIMS 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: The KLIMS (Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show) has witnessed the preview of the brand new Nissan Leaf. Earlier this year, Nissan had promised the second-generation electric vehicle’s public display at the event. However, the launch has been delayed and it will now hit the market by the second quarter of 2019.

The brand new Nissan Leaf offers better performance in comparison to the first-gen model. The vehicle now features an EM57 electric motor that is capable of churning out a maximum of 148 hp of power along with a peak torque of 320 Nm. The battery capacity is even higher with the 40 kWh lithium-ion battery. The operating range on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) is also enhanced with the 195 km to the 378 km.

The automaker claims that it will take 16 hours to refill the battery if the power comes from a 3 kW source while the time decreases up to 8 hours if the power source is changed to 6 kW. The car can also be charged by the CHAdeMO charging socket, using which 80% of the refilling will be done in just 40 minutes.

The new Nissan Leaf comes with a new tech feature, namely ProPILOT single-lane autonomous driving tech. Using a speed preset from the driver, it can automatically control the distance of the vehicle to the car in front while keeping the steering in the centre.

The Leaf comes with a Nissan Safety Shield system. The package includes Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Lane Intervention, Blind Spot Warning, Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Emergency Braking, Intelligent Around View Monitor, and Traffic Sign Recognition etc.

Also, the brand new Nissan Leaf gets an e-Pedal, which eases the process of accelerating, starting, stopping, holding and decelerating.
