Nissan Malaysia launches 2019 Leaf; price starts from RM 189k
KUALA LUMPUR: Nissan Malaysia has finally launched the all-new 2019 Leaf, the car made is local debut several months back during the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018.
The units will arrive as a fully-imported model from Japan and therefore won’t qualify for the government’s current EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle) scheme. The car would be available in single trim option with a price tag of RM 188,888 (on-the-road without insurance). Customers with each purchase will get three-year/60,000 km free service maintenance, eight-year/160,000 km warranty for the car’s lithium-ion battery, and a three-year/100,000 km warranty.
What’s great is that Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM), Nissan Malaysia official distributor is offering a RM 3,500 per month (3-year contract) car subscription service for the 2019 Leaf. Post the contract, customer can either buy the car (at current market price) or get a new Leaf. Besides, with the Leaf owners privilege programme, customer can enjoy 23 days a year usage of the Navara, X-Trail, and Serena for varied traveling needs, for the first three years of ownership.
The new Leaf comes with a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery, instead of the older and smaller 24 kWh unit. Nissan has claimed an operating range of 311 km for the battery, based on the NEDC test cycle. To recharge the 350-battery, there is a Type 1 port on the Leaf’s nose and an AC charger rated at 6.6 kW. Included in its standard kit is a single-phase home wall box charger, it takes approximately 7 hours to charge the battery fully.
In case you run out of charge mid-way, you can stop at any one of the 17 Nissan dealerships and use the 6.6 kW wall box for free. ETCM says that they’ll install more chargers in the future.
The battery is mounted underneath the Leaf floor, and it supplies power to the electric motor that then delivers power to the front wheels. The mill churns out 150 PS of maximum power along with a peak torque of 320 Nm. On the performance front, the car can cover 0 to 100 kmph in 7.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 kmph.
