Nissan Leaf dual-motor concept can blow ICE cars away in a flash

KUALA LUMPUR: Gone are the days when electric cars used to look ugly, sport a meager range, and run at slow speeds. Instead, the electric cars of today vaunt an appearance just as good or even better than its internal combustion engine counterparts. So much so that automobile manufacturers are now using the same platform and body structure for both of their ICE and electric-powered models. With that said, one car that changed the electric automobile scene has been the Nissan Leaf, which is also the best-selling EV on the planet. There is no doubt about the abilities of this Japanese EV, however, more is always better, isn't it? Well, at least Nissan believes so.

The Japanese auto giant has a Leaf dual-motor concept that might just blossom as a production model and give the likes of the Honda Civic Type R, Subaru WRX STI, and many others a run for their own money. The  Nissan Leaf dual-motor concept, or shall we say prototype houses a pair of electric motors that generate around 308 PS of maximum power combined. Wait, there's more. The powertrain pushes out a peak torque of 680 Nm, which is simply insane considering the form factor of the car. Moreover, the ample power is then sent to all of the four wheels on the car.

If we have a look at the performance figures, the Honda City Civic Type R and the Subaru WRX STI can do a 0-100 kmph run in just 5.7 and 5.4 seconds, respectively. On the other hand, the Tesla Model 3 AWD is said to achieve the same feat in just 5.0 seconds. We still await the performance figures of the Nissan Leaf dual-motor concept, though. So, would you like to witness a production model of this hot hatch with 308 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 680 Nm? We sure will, and hope for Nissan to bring it out sooner than later.
