New Land Rover Discovery Sport launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia introduced the new 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport, which is a premium compact SUV, intelligently designed for all terrains as well as for daily life needs. This new model is highly acclaimed to be versatile in design and technologically advanced. New Land Rover shall be made available in two variants which are the five-seater and 5+2-seater, priced at RM 379,800 and RM 409,800 respectively.

The new Discovery Sport is more advanced than the outgoing one with most prominent changes being made beneath the skin. Most of the exterior detailing like the shape, lines, structural solidarity are kept unchanged and minor cosmetic changes are incorporated. Land Rover has recently developed a new material platform that offers more rigidity, durability and keeps the vehicle compact and Discover Sport now dons this new Premium Transverse Architecture (PTA).

The ultimate Discovery design DNA and skeleton have a striking similarity to the new Discovery Sport. It dons a newly designed front fascia giving it a more masculine and boxier look. LED headlamps at the front and rear are also modified and refined to create a completely fresh look. U-shaped Daytime Running Lights (DRL) are also appealing, as they also work as sequential indicators. Noticeably, the front grille is also re-designed, however, Land Rover’s signature design is kept unchanged including the clamshell bonnet, tapered roof, and beltline. Additionally, the front and rear bumper are integrated with exhaust exits and body-coloured cladding.

Engineers have also worked on certain intricate areas of the car that improve the overall driving experience and plush feel. Such features include the Driveline Disconnect, integrated with the All-Wheel-Drive system. With this feature, the driver can disconnect the drive between front wheels and rear wheels, thereby reducing frictional losses and regaining power in less than 500 mili-seconds.

Discovery sport also features the standard Terrain Response 2 which enhances response time and performance of the car on different surfaces for better control and stability. Every driving mode can have a response to throttle, brakes and transmission, offering premium driver handling experience. Drivers have a couple of modes to select from including the Sand, Comfort, Gravel, Mud and Snow, depending on the kind of voyage you wish to go on.

With smart technologies incorporated in the car, the Discovery Sport offers a sophisticated and comfortable travel. Clear-Sight Ground View is the Land Rover’s world-first technology that is etched in Discovery Sport. Providing with a clear view of the ground, this clear-sight view technique helps the driver navigate through rough and uneven terrains. 

Interior aesthetics have also been refreshed, giving it a more elite and modern dashboard. Also, featuring the interior are pistol type gear lever, a 10.25- inch touch pro infotainment system, supporting ubiquitous features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

At the heart of the new Discovery Sport R-Dynamic lies a 2.0 litre turbocharged Ingenium petrol engine igniting 200 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque.

Abiding by the safety norms, the SUV comes with seven airbags and front/rear parking aids as well as a 360-degree camera that is equipped with high-technology Wade Sensing features. The safety kit also includes the Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking and a Driver Condition Monitor, making the new discovery sport a worthy, collectible piece of adventure.

All vehicles distributed by Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia are compatible with the Malaysian climate, environment, fuel quality and meet the Malaysian emission standards.
