MINI Malaysia launches its most affordable car, the 2021 MINI Electric
KUALA LUMPUR: The MINI Electric benefits from several welcoming updates for the model year 2021. The improvements come after the initial shipment of 30 units of the EV was sold out in a blink of a second upon its launch. Thus, bringing the total number of EVs the company sold since the Countryman PHEV 2018 launch to 250+.

Moving on, let's now discuss what revisions the new model brings along starting with the styling.
2021 MINI Electric exterior
On the outside, the EV now showcases a redesigned front bumper with a set of integrated air curtains that adds to the car's aerodynamic profile. And one can notice, the designers have dropped the fog lamps. Another noticeable change over the previous-gen model is the replacement of grey exterior bits by a high-gloss black finish. It can be seen on the LED headlights, tailgate handles, and other places. The striking element, however, is the Electric’s signature neon yellow hue that fills up the new S badge.

Like the 2021 MINI Cooper S range, the Electric also benefits from a new steering wheel integrated with controls finished in piano black finish. The said finish along with the signature neon yellow hue can be seen around the cabin, adding to the EV’s spotier stance.
Other notable inclusions being an 8.8-inch MINI navigation system with Concierge Services and Apple CarPlay and 12-speaker, and 360-watt Harman Kardon audio system.
2021 MINI Electric powertrain
The electric motor setup remains the same as before, churning out a maximum power of 184 bhp and a peak torque of 270 Nm. The EV can complete the century sprint in 7.3 seconds before attaining a top speed of 150 kmph.
In addition, the EV benefits from a commendable eco feature like the Green Driving Assistant and Range Assistant that helps the driver maximize the charge while keeping the range anxiety at bay.
2021 MINI Electric charging
The EV 12-module, 28.9kWh battery unit can be charged up to 80 percent in just 36 minutes at a DC charging station. For the same amount of charge, a public AC station or at-home MINI Wallbox Plus will take around two and a half hours.

The new MINI Electric gets several camera-based driver aids like a lane departure warning system, park assistant, with the former working at speeds up to 210 kmph.
2021 MINI Electric price
The new MINI EV with all its tech on board is priced at RM 217,417 (OTR without SST and insurance). Thus, making it MINI Malaysia's most affordable offering. The price includes - a 4-year unlimited warranty and free scheduled service with an additional 8-year/100,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty for a high-voltage battery.
