MG S5 EV teased for Malaysia; launch set for May 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Officially introduced in China last year, the MG ES5 is set to arrive in Malaysia as the MG S5. SAIC Motor, the local distributor of MG cars in the country, has dropped the first teaser of the upcoming EV on its social media handles.

Dimensions
The MG S5 is a C-segment SUV, slotted above the MG 4 in the brand’s local lineup. It measures 4,476 mm in length, 1,849 mm in width, and 1,621 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,730 mm. These dimensions put the upcoming MG EV in direct competition with the BYD Atto 3.
The boot space is measured at 452 litres, expandable up to 1,441 litres with the rear seats folded.

Exterior
The bold and modern S5 incorporates the brand's latest design philosophy, capturing the attention and holding it for the long term. Key exterior highlights include -

Interior

At the centre of the dashboard sits a 12.8-inch infotainment unit, which promises to keep occupants entertained and informed. The driver gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. The Malaysia-spec MG S5 is also likely to come equipped with the following bits -

Drivetrain, range, and charging
MG confirmed that the Malaysian S5 will come equipped with a rear-wheel drivetrain incorporating a horizontal layout battery with an ultra-thin design. The EV will support up to 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to juice up 10 to 80% in less than 30 mins.

While no more details have yet been revealed, we can refer to the Thai market.
