Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR:  Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has unveiled the first all-electric model from Mercedes-Maybach: the EQS 680 SUV.

Also displayed at the launch was the SUV with the optional Night Series Package for those seeking a more distinctive design.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV offers fully electric performance, cutting-edge features, and opulent craftsmanship, as you would expect from a Maybach.

With this exquisite vehicle, Maybach marks the dawn of a new era in Malaysia, setting a benchmark in the all-electric, top-end luxury SUV segment.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is priced from RM1,088,888 (on-the-road, excluding insurance, with 10% SST) in Peninsular Malaysia.

The SUV features an upright Mercedes star on the hood, a black panel front grille with chrome-plated vertical slats, and DIGITAL LIGHT headlights that project animated patterns onto the road for enhanced visibility and aesthetics.

The 21-inch Maybach multi-spoke alloy wheels add presence, with optional two-tone paint finishes that highlight the SUV’s sculpted lines.

Night Series Package
This optional package offers a more dramatic look with dark chrome accents and rose gold Maybach emblems embedded in the headlights.

Dark pinstripes on the grille, black window frames, and running boards with dark chrome Maybach emblems give the SUV a stealthier appearance.

The 21-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels feature Maybach patterns that catch the light, available in obsidian black, MANUFAKTUR diamond white bright, and obsidian black/mojave silver.

For the interior of the Maybach SUV, the MBUX Hyperscreen takes centre stage and spans across the dashboard with three displays: a 12.3-inch digital cluster for driving information, a 17.7-inch OLED touchscreen for infotainment, and a 12.3-inch passenger display for individualized entertainment.

Rear passengers enjoy First-Class and Executive seats with ventilation, massage functions, calf support, and heating for maximum comfort.

The Burmester 4D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos should deliver immersive audio, while ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL Plus with HEPA filtration ensures clean, allergen-free air.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV features practical and customisable lighting. Designer lamps are built into the C-pillars, while adaptive rear lighting provides reading lights in the grab handles and light strips in the roof. Passengers can adjust the brightness, size, and position of the lights. 

Ambient lighting runs throughout the cabin, including the roof liner and behind the rear seats. The Active Ambient Lighting system has 253 LEDs with 64 color options, including Maybach-exclusive Rose Gold White and Amethyst Glow. A signature “Welcome” light display projects a carpet of light across the vehicle, highlighting the rear doors.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is also designed to minimize noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), especially for rear passengers. The luggage compartment cover, made from ARTICO man-made leather, acts as a barrier between the trunk and cabin, reducing noise like a sedan’s bulkhead. 

The Disconnect Unit (DCU) helps improve efficiency by automatically disconnecting the front electric motor when less power is needed, switching to rear-wheel drive (4x2) for quieter and more energy-efficient driving.

Performance
Both variants use dual electric motors with all-wheel drive (4MATIC), producing 658 PS and 950 Nm of torque. They accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.

The 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery provides up to 600 km of WLTP range and supports 200 kW DC fast charging, which charges from 10% to 80% in about 31 minutes.

With a 22 kW AC charger, a full charge from 0% to 100% takes approximately 6 hours and 15 minutes.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV also features Mercedes’ famed AIRMATIC air suspension, which adjusts to changing road conditions, enhancing ride comfort and stability.

Rear-axle steering improves maneuverability, reducing the turning circle. Interestingly, the SUV features a MAYBACH driving mode, which minimizes vibrations and body movements, particularly for rear-seat passengers.

Automatic comfort doors open as the driver approaches and close with a gentle push, adding convenience.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is equipped with advanced safety systems designed to protect both passengers and pedestrians.

Key features include Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, which maintains a safe distance from vehicles ahead, and Active Steering Assist, which helps keep the vehicle centered in its lane.

Active Blind Spot Assist alerts drivers to vehicles in their blind spots, while the 360-degree camera system provides a comprehensive view of the surroundings, making parking and maneuvering easier.

Additional safety measures include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a suite of airbags strategically placed throughout the cabin.
