Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door to get a mid-cycle facelift
KUALA LUMPUR: The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe arrived in 2019, at a time when there was high consumer demand for SUVs and crossover. Thus, it seemed like a bold move on the part of Mercedes, however, the car must be doing well for the automaker, as it is only then it is benefiting from a mid-cycle revision.
The said news was not revealed by Mercedes, instead, Automedia informed the industry about this development. Let’s get to know the changes it benefits from, starting with the powertrain.
The car that was captured was the AMG GT 63 S trim, it is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo mill that makes a maximum power of 630 hp and a peak torque of 900 Nm. In the revised state, the trim is expected to come with mild-hybrid tech. The GT 53 couples its V6 with a mild-hybrid unit. As for the range-topping GT 73e version, powering it is a 4.0-liter V8 mill paired with a single electric motor. In the new state, the 73e is rumored to receive a power bump, 800hp.
Time to discuss design revision on the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. However, we’ll like to tell you that the list is a bit small, so don’t get your hopes high. The car captured recently wore a thick camouflage strip on the front bumper, whose styling is said to be tweaked. The rest of the car wears no such covering, however, it’s a work in progress, so one never knows what changes next. However, out of all, the rear bumper is most expected to be revised.
No cabin images are available at the moment, but we expect and would very much like Mercedes to drop the outdated COMAND system and rather go for the latest-gen MBUX infotainment software.
The revised Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door is expected to arrive later this year as a 2022 model. However, as per experts, it could be its last such facelift, as the automaker is shifting its focus towards SUVs, crossovers, and electric vehicles. The CLS is expected to follow the same virtue. It was recently that Mercedes announced the commencement of AMG’s EV journey which we think will begin with the GT 73e, but let’s see. Furthermore, AMG is also concentrating on new EVs like the EQS.
