Meet Mercedes-Maybach first plug-in hybrid model, the S 580e

KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, the first Mercedes-Maybach plug-in hybrid model is out in the open. Called the S 580 e, the car opens an impressive experience of silence.

Mercedes-Maybach head Daniel Lescow on the arrival of its first PHEV model said, “With our first plug-in hybrid model, we are combining the luxury experience typical of Maybach with emission-free local driving when in electric driving mode,”

He added, "The S 580 e represents a pivotal step in the transformation of our heritage brand into an electric future. We will present our first fully electric model as early as 2023.”

Let’s get to the new Maybach S 580e in detail -

• The car comes discreetly integrated with typical Maybach expertise like concealed charging socket(on the left side), headlights with blue accents, and an instrument panel with a battery charging state
• Powering the latest Maybach is an inline six-cylinder engine (from the current Mercedes-Benz engine gen) making a maximum power of 367 hp. The mill offers low fuel consumption and exhaust emissions
• The e-motor offers maximum torque of 440 Nm in the first engine revolution, leading to dynamic handling and rapid acceleration
• The engine together with hybrid units generates a combined system output of 510 hp along with a peak torque of 570 Nm
• On the performance front, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.1 seconds and has an electric-only range of up to 100 km
• The charging is done either via an 11 kW AC charger or 60 kW
• DC charger for a fast charger (0 to 100% charge in just 30 minutes)

Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e will be first sold in China, followed by other international markets including Europe and Thailand.
