KUALA LUMPUR: It was back in August that Chery Indonesia opened bookings for Tiggo 7 Pro and 8 Pro and now finally after months of waiting the SUVs have finally been launched.

As for Malaysia, we are still awaiting a local launch of the brand’s lineup but the Chinese automaker has made a few progressions - Chery’s Malaysian-bound website going live, a preview of the Omodo 5 SUV and Tiggo Pro SUV range (4 Pro, 7 Pro, & 8 Pro).

While we still wait for our share of treats from Chery, here’s what the automaker has to offer for the Indonesian market.

Chery Tiggo 7 Pro & Tiggo 8 Pro: Discussed in detail

Variants & Price

The Tiggo 8 Pro is offered in six variant options in the Indonesian market, available across two models. Tiggo 7 Pro, on the other hand, is available in four-time options namely, Comfort, Luxury, Premium, and Two Tone.

The Tiggo 7 Pro’s price ranges from Rp 368.5 juta to Rp 433.5 juta (RM 105k - RM 123k).

As for the Tiggo 8 Pro, it retails from Rp 518.5 juta to Rp 548.5 juta (RM 147k - RM 156k).

Powertrain

Powering the five-seater Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SUV is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit generating a maximum power of 155 hp along with a peak torque of 230 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a CVT gearbox with nine-virtual ratios.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, on the other hand, is powered by a bigger 2.0-litre four-cylinder direct-injection turbo petrol mill making a maximum power of 250 hp and 390 Nm of peak torque.The drive is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The range-topping variants on the two cars benefit from a few extra features like 18-inch alloys, LED automatic headlights with DRLs, LED tail lights, hands-free powered tailgate, keyless entry with remote engine start, 4-way powered adjustments for front passengers, driver seat with memory function, and a panoramic sunroof with electric sunshade. Also, the two cars get Intelligent Voice Assistant features.

Safety profile

Both the Chery SUVs showcase exceptional safety profiles that are loaded with several advanced specs. Included in the list are - six airbags, hill descent control, hill-start assist, Advanced Driving Assistance System (with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, blind spot detection, rear-cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, intelligent high-beam control, and traffic recognition).
