Malaysia will be Chery’s 3rd largest RHD market; coming soon in July 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery has confirmed its soon arrival in the right-hand drive markets next year including Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Brunei. The news was confirmed by the automaker at the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro’s Indonesia launch event.

Chery Motor Indonesia’s executive vice president, Zhang Wei announced the automaker’s plans to launch a subsidiary in Malaysia in December 2022. While Indonesia will be Chery’s main hub for RHD markets, Malaysia will also locally assemble Chery’s SUVs (Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 7 Pro).

Malaysia’s Chery CKD production facility will build 30,000 units annually, as mentioned by Zhang Wei in the live stream. While the said Malaysia facility where the Chery’s will be manufactured is not finalized yet, it is expected to launch in the country by July 2023.

Also, Chery’s expectation from the Malaysian market in terms of sales is quite high with it being the third largest RWD market after Indonesia and Australia.

For the Australian market, Chery confirmed the Omoda 5, thus making it the only debut model for the market.

Chery cemented its arrival in the Malaysian market by strengthening its online presence in the market via setting up its social media accounts and organizing media previews for its models. Chery’s cars to enter the Malaysian market include - Tiggo 8 Pro Max, Tiggo 7 Pro, 8 Pro PHEV, Omoda 5, and Tiggo 4 Pro.
