Malaysia Autoshow 2024: GWM Tank 300 previewed; now open for booking

KUALA LUMPUR: Great Wall Motor Malaysia caused a stir in the local SUV market with the preview of its luxury off-road, the Tank 300, at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. Along with the preview, the Chinese automaker also opened the ordering books for the soon-to-be-launched SUV. 

The company has also rolled out an early bird promo for the first 300 customers who pre-book the Tank 300. The rewards include - 5-year free maintenance, lifetime engine & transmission warranty (for first-hand owners), and some mystery rewards, which will be announced during the official launch.

The specifications state that the Malaysia-spec Tank 300 will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine generating a maximum power of 220 PS and a peak torque of 380 Nm. It will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4x4 drive system. Unfortunately, the mild-hybrid drivetrain offered globally will not make its way to Malaysia.

With an “off-road DNA", the Tank 300 is designed to perform well in challenging terrains, such as rough trails, uneven surfaces, and rugged landscapes. It features an off-road chassis with electronically controlled mechanical differential locks on both axles.

There are nine selectable drive modes: Normal, Mud/Sand, Pothole, Mountain, Rock, and Creeping. It also incorporates a "Tank Turn" feature to reduce the turning radius, allowing for easy manoeuvrability in tight spaces.

In terms of dimensions, the upcoming Tank SUV is 4760 mm long, 1930 mm wide, and 1903 mm tall. The water depth is 700 mm, with approach and departure angles measured at 33°and 34°, respectively.

Styling-wise, the SUV sports a boxy design reminiscent of the Jeep Wrangler and Suzuki Jimny. It features a large front grille, round LED headlights, flared wheel arches incorporating large alloy wheels, vertical tail lights, and a spare wheel.

The cabin is equipped with “impressive comfort and technology features,” says the automaker.

Enthusiasts can catch a preview of the upcoming Tank 300 SUV at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, which will take place at MAEPS from May 22 to May 26, 2024.
